Dick Dorr Memorial Plaque at Mayo Beach

With the offseason underway it seems like a good time for a post on a tribute to Dick Dorr, better known to us as Sam.

Dick was part of a group of friends that met for lunch or other get togethers weekly at various Cape Cod spots, in and around the town of Wellfleet.

The Monday Club, as they call themselves, placed a memorial plaque on a picnic table at Mayo Beach, a quiet Cape Cod Bay beach just down the street from Dick's former home.

Here's a picture of that plaque and a couple of others as a reference to it's location. The view there is beautiful, and although the pictures below don't do it justice, there is an impressive dune just to one side at the opening into the bay. From Dick's deck there was the bay and dune to one side, and a fairway to the country club that bordered their property to the other.

I'm not sure of the exact placement date.

I'll check with my wife and see if she knows. She's actually the one that's most in touch.

What a wonderful guy. The ultimate Celtics fan and a real mensch.

I wonder how Sally is? Was that the name of his wife?
