$1.8 million is not bad for a 2 way guy.

Frankly, this kid has a long way to go to be any kind of a role player here in Boston

Rosalie,
I added a link on your original post, and I also tweaked the title.
I hope you don't mind.
So you are not all that impressed with his summer league play yet? Hopefully the game will slow down for him. From all reports, he drives into traffic with no plan B.
Maybe another season in Maine will help get him coached up.

Rosalie,
The way I read it, and I could be wrong, is that next year (2024) he will be a RFA (you can only sign a player to a two-way contract for two years. After that he has to either make the team, sign a two-way with another team or move on from his NBA dreams). His Qualifying Offer in 2024 will be $1.8M. In other words, IF Brad wants him with the Celtics next year he MUST sign JD to a regular NBA contract and the Qualifying Offer (which, like every other RFA with a QO, can be matched or beaten by another team with the Celtics having the right to keep him by matching it) is for $1.8M.
The salary for a two-way player is half the NBA rookie minimum, $559,782. Still a pretty nice chunk of change for a 20 year old.

Gyso I put that post there hoping you would elaborate on it. No Davison does not impress me at all. I wondered last night if he was even going to be around. I know he is quick, but not impressed with his decision making or playmaking. If this kid is around in a year I will be shocked. At least we knew Nesmith had some talent when he went diving all over the place. This kid, I have to wonder. Walsh is outshining him without even putting up big numbers. You can tell he "get's it"

As expected.
He's got some potential, but needs to play.
Another 2-way gives the team an inexpensive way to see if he can develop into something.

Not bad money when you consider how many games they play and the alternative job market outside of basketball. He has work to do up in Maine. His turnovers were really bad in game 2 and I think he had 5 in game 1. In ME he was much better with an assist to TOV ratio of something in the 2.9 range. SL is a difficult place to evaluate a group of guys who have not played together.
The Celtics must still like him enough to give him another year. He is still very young.

Re: JD Davison New Contract
After watching him the last two games, I am almost surprised that they are taking a chance with this kid. I know he is athletic, but is the basketball IQ there? I guess giving him one more shot, at low risk money for them, is worth it

Re: JD Davison New Contract
Sometimes the player has to slow down for the game.Pushing the pace is all well and good, but Davison plays too helter- skelter. The jury is still out on him. I think another two- way was warranted.
