You can see how important it is to have an All Sports Radio Station married to a major local franchise.

Take a look at WBZ FM’s the “Sports Hub” and what happens to their numbers (April- May-June) as soon as the team ends their season.

The numbers drop aren’t exclusively tied into the Celtics season ending.
There were also a number of other factors going on with their morning show that contributed to this hit.

However, a drop is to be expected and stations anticipate it and budget accordingly.

It is significant because their main competitor WEEI saw huge gains and a lot began in morning drive where turmoil set in at WBZ FM, The Sports Hub.

What are the call letters of the classic rock station that played a lot of J. Giles because Magic Dick (or Peter Wolf?) was a DJ?  (at least that is how I remember it)

That was my favorite station whenever I lived in Manchester, NH.

That was a huge station in its day. I used do some remote broadcasts with them in the 80s as 2 of my friends worked there. It was a fun time to be involved in Boston Radio. They may still be on air but the original station shut down in 2009 I think. It was a ground breaking FM station.

You might remember Tank on sports, DJs Charles Laquidara, Mark Parenteau.

Yes, I remember all of them. Wherever the tower was at, the station was hard to get north of Manchester.

It was on the top of the Prudential Tower. Which is probably the only reason you could get it at all.

Here is a funny story. We did a remote in the WBCN van at Nantasket Beach. Tank and Mark were the voices and it was myself and another engineer. We were hungry so Mark broadcasts that anyone who showed up with a pizza would get a free WBCN t shirt. About 20 minutes later we had about 4 pizzas, the crazy thing is we ate them. Would never do that today.

Peter lived with Doug Slade for years before the Hallucinations merged with the J Geils Band. Then Doug married my ex and Peter went on to fame with J Geils. On WBCN Peter hosted the College of Musical Knowledge. He was and still is very smart. He married Fay Dunaway for a little while, but he never got over his first love who died in a car accident. I haven't seen him for years, but he spends some time time in Portland, Maine where my ex and my son  see him on occasion. Peter Wolf is one of the very good guys,  period.

Van Morrison and his gal Janet Planet lived on the second floor in Boston above Doug and my ex's flat.
Van would borrow Doug's guitar a lot. Those were the days.
