Pre-Game Set - Utah, 2 X @IND
OK. Another package deal here. First things first. Utah. Haven't been following them much this season with good reason. Don't have time to follow the cellar dwellers unless you are on a 28-game losing streak and trying to break the sad-sack record.
Again, this game has all the makings of a "T" game, as one would be rightfully tempted to be looking on to the next two games and their extreme importance.
I'd like to get out of this 3-game stretch 2-1. Unless dboss sees anything differently, I'd say the line lies somewhere in the very hazy area between us going 1-2 and 2-1. It is paramount, at the very LEAST, we split with IND. If we lose both, that's going to set off all kinds of bells and whistles none of us want to hear. Plus if this is a potential 2nd Round playoff series, we've got some issues.
It starts tomorrow night in Boston. This game needs to be over by the start of the 2nd quarter. And by over, I mean way over. We'll need this going into the B2B, which means Al is out one of these two games. Be wise for him to sit out tomorrow. But I don't make Joe's salary. I'm just sayin'!
With it's recent total domination of the Bucks and surprising IST run, IND will have the total annihilation of the Celtics next on their list of things to check off in the new year after our first game of the season against them where we humiliated IND 155-104. They won't give up until this task is completed. So, best to have our full deck, Al included. If we are fortunate to win both, this will baffle and confuse them, hopefully throwing them into a basketball death spiral. Like Rosalie implies, IND is cocky (rightfully so) and are in need of a dose of reality. Only Boston can administer that. Boston has to show they can win on their court. Period. Clearly, the NDB's (No Defense Bucks) are absolutely no help in setting IND straight. Young legs and a continuing disappointing Dame shows offense ain't enough thus making for an easy Indy sweep. It's now up to us.

Re: Pre-Game Set - Utah, 2 X @IND
I've got to put this in. After last night's Big Man display on TNT and then listening to Steven A. and Windy's First Take on the renaissance of the NBA Big Man and the future of the league, Celtics fans and mainly the true old schoolers on this site should be salivating and foaming at the mouth.
The last time there was this hoopla about the Big Man it was the 1950's and 60's. We had a big man but he wasn't out there for the attention to his skills set or size. There was another dude who was all into the stats and the individual accolades. He only finished up with two titles and our guy finished with 11 when all was said and done and there was more said than done.
With all the talk about Giannis, Embiid, Jokic and Wembanyama, there was ZERO, ZILCH, NADA mention of our third scorer, The Unicorn. Perfect. We've seen this song and dance before. Some of you here lived it. Please, NBA and Media, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE keep pushing this Big Man agenda! I dare you. I double dare you! And as the league, media and teams focus on this, ticket sales, and the stats, etc., Boston will come in and RUN THE CHAMPIONSHIP TABLE AGAIN for years to come. And all of those teams, media outlets that hate us (which is all of them) will been enraged as they discover it was them that fell for it. History is doomed to repeat itself.
It's unfortunate that Mr. Russell is no longer with us. He would see this plain as day. But knowing him he would not have tipped anyone off. We have the most complete team that has ZERO concern about stats or individual performances and accolades. The only stat that matters is the number of titles. That's all Bill cared about. That's all Brad cares about.
Oh, man!! I can't believe what I just saw!! Get ready Celtic fans. This is being served up to us on a silver platter. Watch and enjoy all the Big Man one-on-one bs hype you want. Relish it if you like. But watch Boston go on a major, multi-year Title run. And by the time the MIL's, the SAS's, the DEN's and PHI's pull all their hair out trying to figure out how we're doing it and why they can't get passed the hump, it will be too late.
Hallelujah!! Amen!!

Re: Pre-Game Set - Utah, 2 X @IND
The way the game has changed has impacted the center position the most IMO.
The defining element is the ever increasing use of the 3 point shot. Teams that are lucky enough to have a center that can stretch the floor are ahead of the curve. It seems like all of your top teams have at least one stretch big.
Upcoming games
The Celtics should be a bit testy after losing in OKC. The Jazz are next up and I expect a win. Once again, AH is unlikely to play because this is the first game of a B2B.
This upcoming schedule is a mine field. After tonight's game the Celtics hit the road for the 2nd game of their B2B against the pesky Pacers. And for good measure, we have to play them again on Monday. It's a crazy schedule.
The Celtics will come home after the Monday game and play the T'Wolves on Wednesday and then they go back on the road again to play the Bucks. That will be another B2B. Then they head home for a game against Houston and then back out on the road to play t Toronto. Then its back home for 2 games against the Spurs and the Nuggets.
I see this as the pinball effect. Back and forth with no rhyme or reason.
These guys are all well conditioned athletes however the mental toll is my biggest concern.
I think that you have to reduce some of that stress by expanding your rotation. This is not the playoffs. The Celtics should be playing 10 guys every game. Tonight we will be down one big with AH out but that is okay because this team is better when they play a single big lineup.
CJ seems to be reluctant to play more of his wing depth outside of Hauser.
It is anybody's guess as to who gets the bulk of BU minutes at center tonight. Queta was a DNP at OKC as was Brissett.
I would be happy with a win tonight and then a split at Indy. I cannot even wrap my head around what happens after thought.
CJ won coach of the month as his team posted an impressive 12-2 record.

Remember when we played 2 @Home vs. Cleveland and then again vs. Orlando last month?
The 2 @Indy is the other side of the coin. This is only partial payment for the earlier convenient home schedule. The final payment is at the end of March with 2 @Atlanta.

dboss,
Let's see if Joe lengthens the player list tonight. If we don't believe IND is looking to complete the circuit and sweep us through Monday like they have the Bucks, we're all idiots. I'll pick this up in the other pre-game thread.

Re: Pre-Game Set - Utah, 2 X @IND
Vegas is somewhat cautiously confident in us with BOS(-5.5). Yet every time I've seen that line we lose. Although ESPN hasn't updated the injury report, we should be at full strength. IND has Nesmith and Nembhard (never heard of him) as questionable which means they'll be at full strength as well.
To be the best, you have to beat the best. MIL has found out what missing Jrue is all about losing 4 out of 5 times to these wannabes. They will have to make a move before/by the deadline. We slipped up letting IND beat us in the IST. We are to blame for that. Now it's time the pull the deluge plug and douse any and all hope(s) for IND. Both games. This is why Brad brought Jrue on board for. Games like the next two.
We are going to need a repeat performance of the Utah game to the "T" tonight vs. IND. BOS clearly needs to remember the quote Bill Russell gave to either Sam Jones or KC Jones guarding Bill Bradley when Bradley was shooting lights out and Bradley standing right next to Jones when Russell delivered the following. "Can you guard this marthafaulker? "Yeah!" "Well then do it, Gotdammit!!" Bradley (Halliburton hopefully tonight now) was never the same after that as Jones went apeshit on Bradley that game. Bradley brought it up to Russell years later as to why he said that right in front of him and how it effected his game and career after that. Jrue needs to play out of his brain tonight on defense against this cocky clown (and team) and foul him out in the 1st quarter. I don't care if Jrue scores just one point. Party's over in IND starting tonight. This is where champions are molded. In the trenches.

Re: Pre-Game Set - Utah, 2 X @IND
Well, the line as tightened up tonight slightly vs. Saturday's line with BOS (-3.5) as 3 of our players are questionable (JT, KP and Doogie).
That's actually OK. We tend to really turn it up in these scenarios. The bench typically show up and out. I'm good with a road B2B sweep.
This would be the ultimate, humiliating slap in the face the cocky Pacers needs to start their inevitable downward spiral. Celtics need to take care of business. IND will come out hot. Doesn't matter. But we don't need any slip ups or looking ahead to home against MIN, @MIL or HOU this week. Certainly those are intimidating games and with Ime returning to BOS that goes into a category all by itself.
The gap is widening in the East between us and MIL/PHI. No reason to let that gap shorten anytime soon. We've been getting a lot of help with Bucks and PHI doing most of the legwork. But we need to keep winning. Plain and simple. It doesn't matter who is on the court for us tonight.
These games build character. We have a lot of character. We can still build more. But the bench needs to continue to show up big in these situations.

Celtics favored by 2 1/2 tonight. Spread was Boston by 6 1/2 Saturday. ESPN lists both Tatum and Hauser as OUT. Porzingis supposedly playing.

steve3344,
Thanks for the update. Thought it would keep dropping, maybe even crossing over. Ask SAC what happened when Vegas made SAC 2.5 point faves a few weeks ago. They're still looking for their asses with both hands.
I'm sure IND smells blood. Too bad it's going to be their own. Good luck shutting down JB tonight. He lives for these games when JT takes a break. Watch P-Sqaured be the biggest pest ever and put up 20 on the side.
