Another trivia question?
As there is talk of contracting teams now, back when the old ABA merged with the NBA there were 5 teams that folded, actually 2 folded early that final season and those players were free to sign on with another team. At the end of the last ABA season, three teams Kentucky, Virginia and St. Louis's were not merged with the NBA and players from those teams were entered in a special dispersal draft.
Who was the first ABA player taken in this special draft and by whom? He has Celtic ties.

Re: Another trivia question?
Thanks for the link Beat, I did not know about that site. Most of my ABA knowledge I got from watching the games and reading contemporary news and magazine articles. Growing up on Long Island in the 70's allowed me to see most all of the Nets games and I even attended a few at the old Commack arena and the Nassau Coliseum. Though I was a Net fan the Indiana Pacers were my favorite team and George McGinnis my favorite player. The ABA McGinnis was a complete and unselfish power forward which continued into his first year in the NBA with the Sixers, but when they acquired the Dr. he changed into a petulant, ballhogging lockerroom cancer. Trading him to the Nuggets for Bobby Jones has to be one of the all time great "chemistry trades" in sports history, and it worked out pretty well on the court for the Sixers also.
