Celtics Rumored in Anthony Parker Talks, Again
Celtics rumored in Anthony Parker talks, again
Jay King | February 18, 2011 at 1:01 pm | 0 Comments
The Celtics, again, have been mentioned in Anthony Parker rumors. (ESPN)
The Celts, according to sources briefed on Boston’s thinking, have joined their conference rivals from Chicago in pursuit of Cavaliers swingman Anthony Parker.
The Celts covet an extra playoff-tested shooter/defender as much as the Bulls, with Marquis Daniels out indefinitely and Delonte West missing much of the season so far. Yet it remains to be seen whether either of the two teams is willing to meet Cleveland’s asking price.
The Cavs are seeking a quality draft pick or a young big man with promise in exchange for Parker, who’s averaging 11.5 points and shooting 47 percent on 3-pointers in February.
Which begs the question: Would you offer Semih Erden in a package for Parker, or another backup small forward? My answer to that all depends (and, really, my thinking about the whole trade deadline action depends) on Marquis Daniels’ health. If the Celtics are sure he’ll be ready for the playoffs, there’s no need to trade for Parker. Even though, as a veteran shooter who also plays some defense, he certainly has more value in Boston than he does in Cleveland.
I’d rather keep Erden around, if possible. Young, promising centers don’t grow on trees, and I’m actually quite enthused about Erden’s future prospects. But if Daniels can’t return this season, the Celtics need to make a move to add some size behind Paul Pierce. And Parker wouldn’t be an awful fit.
But aren’t the Cavs asking a little much? Parker’s a 35-year old backup currently shooting an even 40.0% from the field. The Cavs shouldn’t expect “a quality draft pick” or “a young big man with promise” in return for Parker, right? Wouldn’t they just be lucky if some team takes his contract off their hands (which the Celtics can do by offering Daniels and cash)?
Trade rumor season (non-Melo Division) has officially begun, folks. Enjoy.

No way do the Celtics give up Erdin. That is a joke to begin with asking Erdin at 24 for a 35 year old. We also do not know about Shaq or JON. Erdin is really is our life raft if those two do not come back.

The Celtics need to be as certain as possible that, for any give playoff game, they have at least one player (beside Glen Davis) as relief for Perk. The way Erden and Shaq (to say nothing of Jermaine) have been afflicted with just loads of injuries, the only way to come as close as possible to a guarantee that at least one of the three will be available is to keep all three.
Marquis for Parker, straight-up, does work, although Quis would have to okay the deal. The Celtics' #1 pick would be a lot to give up—not because it will be all that high a pick but because it would prevent them from any possibility of trading their #1 next year (since you can't trade your #1 two years in a row).

I dont think a trade involving Marquis is even on the table....that would both be EXTREMELY distasteful - but also presumably against the terms of the CBA
I think Parker would be a good addition - althought he is also not really a "3". If you get him for a provisional pick - fine. But big men are more valuable than old journey men players with mediocre up side

Make that NO upside. This would be a short term rental on the scale of a room in a cathouse on Bourbon Street.
If he's bought out and we have to waive somebody to get the slot free, fine, but if we have to give up somebody for him other than Nate I'd be pretty skeptical.

Hi,
If they give SE for AP it'd be a huge mistake. IMO.
I'd rather use VW, DW or LH to spell PP.

This is an excerpt from Marc Stein, of ESPN True Hoop:
The Cavs are seeking a quality draft pick or a young big man with promise in exchange for Parker, who’s averaging 11.5 points and shooting 47 percent on 3-pointers in February.
Are they kidding me? They want a quality draft pick or a young big man for a 35 1/2 year old guard who has never won a championship, never been an all-star and has only been in 22 playoff games in his entire career?

Re: Celtics Rumored in Anthony Parker Talks, Again
From what I have read Marquis has a clause in his contract where he could turn down a trade. Also, it has been written that Cleveland wants a young big guy. If that means trading Semi, I am against that completely. Parker is what? 35? 36?, and he could walk away at the end of the year????
I think they would have to buy Marquis out, and it has to be a guarantee that he cannot play this year. But, trading Semi is a big NO for me.
