Re: POST GAME PHILLY
Hey, nearly everyone here hopes that this is just a "phase" the team is going through and that if and when we get relatively more healthy we will start to play like champions again. I resent anyone here telling me or others who think that the team is just not as good now as when Perkins was here and playing was better than what we have now, this year. Not all of us can be pompom wavers 24/7. Those who can, great. Go for it.
In the end, if we go deep into the playoffs all of us will be happy. A ring would be nice, but I would settle for competing in the finals again given what I see out there.

Re: POST GAME PHILLY
MDCelticsFan,
Suddenly its not having Perk in there that is responsible for the teams recent woes (2 losses). The team has fared quite well this year without Perk, going 38-13 for a .745 winning per cent, and 8-4 .667 winning per cent with him. I would suggest that you might want to place at least a little blame on injuries which has left the Celts without a backup Center since Davis went down And how about Garnett"s .313 % (10-32) shooting in the last 2 games. That sure didn't help the cause. Now its time for a little patience MD. I'll bet that in your 59 years you have experienced many other peaks and valley's with the Celtics. Relax and lets see how it all plays out when (and if) the team is able to field a healthy club.

When Ainge cast the lot with older players and cast offs, he should have figured there was a greater chance of under-performing by the cast offs, as well as injuries to players with many miles on the tread! Old legs and joints are not very resiliant.

Re: POST GAME PHILLY
I don't know about you, but I would rather let the Bulls and Heat play/beat on each other first before they get to us. So these games have some meaning and we don't have the urgency or are too fatigued to get it together. I'm not here to argue about the Perk deal, Green has alot of high level skills and Krstic has been better than I thought, but right now without Shaq and JON, we don't have enough to get it done, to hold onto the first seed or win the title.....and I'm not the only one that sees it like this.
Ofcourse I'm still gonna be rooting for this team, why would I be on this board almost everyday? I'm no fair weather or bandwagon fan.

Re: POST GAME PHILLY
I like to think I am MD....AND I agree with Swish that lots of what is going on is due to a litany of injuries, especially to our bigs. The fact the JON came in as damaged goods and Shaq is 39 and on his last legs should have given Ainge second thoughts about trading our youngest center-who also happens to be one of our best interior defenders and a part of the camraderie that made up the nucleus of the team. Sure we played well without Perkins early in the season when everyone was fresher. Now that most of the guys are fatigued and beat up is when we need him...and guess what. He ain't on the team any more. Right now I am thinking thats a mistake-and I hope to be proven wrong.

Re: POST GAME PHILLY
Hey MD, is that corner in DC near BIG BEN Liquor? That Place does exist but do not go there at night......that's a story for another day!
Listen, what it boils down to is this, Danny needed to try to get someone for MD after getting hurt and perhaps pick up a back-up for Rondo. This trade came up and I think he tried to kill three birds with one stone:
1) get defensive replacement for MD and a backup to PP;
2) get younger and a runner for Rondo, and have JG someday soon replace PP;
3) trade Perk and get something in return 'cause he would not sign him for more the $6M per. If Krystic works out he could sign him to a lower amount $5-6M per or if he did not work out, Danny has an expiring contract come July.
So in the process of accomplishing his original goal, this mushroomed and got bigger in size.....perhaps beyond what Doc would have liked.
The complaint I have with Danny is, Danny for years got away paying cheap at the center position. Who in the NBA is paying their starting center and a key position $4M per...think about it!
So now there is tremendous disconnect among 1/3 of the team because they do not know the system. This is a roll of the dice for Danny and it may or may not work out.
Celtic fans who cry foul and are beginning to complain have a right to! They are fans first and foremost and have a right to express their opinion.....right or wrong! That shows me fans who disagree are showing their passion and love of the Celtics. Cannot be like one of the animal's in George Orwell's Animal Farm who just follow!

Re: POST GAME PHILLY
I can't believe some of this stuff. The starters are getting burned out? Here are the average MPG for the five current starters during this season:
Pierce 35
Allen 36
KG 32
Krstic 28
Rondo (who's age 24) 38
Maybe things are worse recently, right? Wrong! I checked back over the past three games; and, out of 15 possibilities, there has been only one instance in which a starter has played as many as 40 minutes:24-year-old Rondo. And, for the most part, the starters play a slowed-down offense, with a few fast breaks thrown in. And they stand around a lot on offense (even when their record was so great earlier in the season). It's not all that taxing. Burned out? Puhleeze!!!!!!!!!!!
Think about how burned out the starters might have been lately if Krstic and Green hadn't been on the team.

Hey - Pete! How are you? Boy, I really have a hard time coming on here and reading all this baloney about the Celtics. The other night on Celtics.com, the live feed from the game, there was a guy on there who made a statement that Ray Allen was becoming inconsistent again. Do these people watch the games??? Do they read the stats??? I know I will always defend Ray, but he has had one hell of a season.
Sometimes I wonder where they would have been without him. How come no one is questioning Pierce? He has been up and down.
Everybody, slow down, the best is yet to come. Thank God we have people like you, Sam and Beat on here who won't give up either! Call me a die hard, call me
pig headed, call me a dreamer, but we will be there at the end of the year.
It is good to see a post from you every now and then. One of the originals!!
Sometimes I feel like I am back on BDC!!
Good to hear from you. Take care

Hey Rosalie doing fine here and thank you. I can understand the fear that some have from a defensive standpoint. But there is potential for this group to jell, so ill stay on that side of things. Take care and hang in.

To MD and Pumpsie
I do not question your loyalty towards the C's as fans BUT for 1 minute saying that trading Perk is the cause of the past 2 loses is PURE balony.
Again answer this how many points has Perk scored since the trade?
We did well without him? Our recent skid is due to a variety of things. No one reason or cause. Too many injuries, and some of our starters having off games and a razor thin bench that know one knew a month ago.
To the others like Rosalie and Sam and NYCelt and Pete and others, thanks for the calming remarks. We don't need no Stan Van G's.
I could give a rats if we have to go thru both Miami and Chicago. I only wish we are reasonably healthy and I think the rest will take care of itself.
Always optomistic from the Tug and our new 5 inches of snow. (come on spring, get here!)

Re: POST GAME PHILLY
I'd like to point out that Philly is one of the hottest teams in the league since the All-Star break. They are currently 7-3 in their last 10 games, that includes the loss last night to Milwaukee and the victory over the Celtics. So, they were 6-2 heading into the game with us. That's not bad at all.
You know, I've been thinking about why we're struggling a bit. I know we've got newbies and I know their skillsets, bodies, roles are different than the players we gave up, but I'm trying to think a little bit deeper here. I'm thinking that some of it, not all of it, has to do with defensive spacing.
Offensive spacing is easier to pick up, because you can just feel when there are too many players in the area, but learning defensive spacing in a whole new system is harder. You have to fall off your man, to help out, but how far do you fall off them without surrendering open jumpshots even when you try to get back? I think that is a lot of the problems Jeff Green is experiencing. I don't remember him having players blow past him so much as I see him trying to fly back to a shooter after dropping back towards the paint too much. In Krstic's case, he needs to learn how to attach himself to KG's hip. KG runs the defense, ESPECIALLY the baseline defense, and he demands a tremendous amount of communication. If you're not used to yelling out what you're seeing so much as just reacting to it, that's a problem. He's getting better, KG is giving him credit for working hard, but we shouldn't expect him to do the 4 years of learning curve Perk had with KG in a few weeks.
Anyway, that's my 'thought du jour'.

You always makke me feel like I am not the only nut in the world who doesn't believe the sky is falling and the Celtics are fading to black. You are right, thank God for Sam, Pete, NYCelt!!! I am such a die hard that I take it personally when someone attacks this team.
I still have your poem that you wrote after they won the title!! Keep the faith, I will probably see you tonight on line, unless I decide that it would be a good idea to just take a break. Sam.....you are the best!!!! I love that there is someone as crazy as me!
Rosalie
Snow???? I am waiting for 60 degree weather! How many inches have you gotten this year? I would say it is quite a bit more than us.

Hi,
Please pardon my ignorance but I don't understand why there was no such doom and gloom other times Celtics lost 2 in a row?
On the funny side. Almost every Celtic was found guilty. Some got away with misdemeanor, others're sentenced to death. The only person who's in the very thick of it and hasn't been touched is Doc. Who is he, don Corleone? I think he has to be fired before the start of today's game. No mercy.

I'd say we have in the area of 10-12 feet so far this winter. That sounds like a lot but many winters here exceed 300 inches (25 feet)
No single big storm really at most perhaps 2 feet in a day. nothiing like the days of getting 5-6 feet in one storm.
Warmed up some and lookin to 50 + degrees later in the week. Wont worry about mowing lawn for a bit.........can't see it!
PS was it my poem you remember?

You must have it put somewhere. It was terrific. Made me feel great back then and reminded me of a poem that I wrote and sent to Red when the Celtics won the title in 68. It was in the Boston Globe too. Funny how you feel so moved by something that you love so much that you put your thoughts into words! I kept a copy of yours!

I love my Celtics
I love them so
I love them from my long head
To my four toes
I love my Celtics
They are the best
The other teams
cannot pass the test
I love my Celtics
The players are wise
It's that team out West
I have come to despise
The Lakers Lakers Lakers
Oh they are a sight
Their trolls come here
To pick many fights
I love my Celtics
Have so for years
In times of joy
and times of tears
From Russell to Perk
Cousy to Powe
There are no players
I do not know
KG Ray Allen
and Rajon Rondo
and #17
That guy they call Hondo
Parish DJ and Bird
with a guy called McHale
That team rarely
If ever failed
The Jones's Sam
and KC
a finer backcourt
was never seen
I love the red heads
Cowens and Walton
They made the fans
keep on a shoutin
I love the guys
up in heaven
With Red in charge
we always won game seven
I love the Celtics
the banners, the green
the floor of parquet
so shiny and clean
I pity the lakers
I pity them so much
We are a team
they cannot touch
I love my Celtics
#18 will be ours
we will shout from Causway
we will shout from our cars
From the top of the Pru
To the backbay
I know every fan
Feels this way
I love my Celtics but
time has come to leave
So I will say it one last time
