Nice read on the OLD Boston Garden
While searching around stumbled onto this.
Nice piece and some great stories, many I never heard about.

Re: Nice read on the OLD Boston Garden
Beat,
A great story, by a truly great writer, about a great basketball icon.
Actually, Larry made the final layup on a pass from Havlicek. But Russ did prevent an errant behind-the-back pass by The Cooz from going out of bounds with a one-hand stab.

And the Celtics lost that meaningless last game to the Knicks. Bummer.

Re: Nice read on the OLD Boston Garden
Hey guys... anyone
How in the world did that court fit SIDEWAYS?
from the article....
"There was one game where we wore white sneakers," Bob Brannum (Celtics 1951-55) says. "Walter Brown, the owner [Celtics 1946-64], tried it as an experiment. The same game, he turned the court sideways. He figured that more seats were in the end zones, so this way there would be more seats on the sides of the court. "
Memories can be cloudy BUT just does not seem there would have been enough room. Were some of the lower level seats moveable?
Just wondering is all.

Re: Nice read on the OLD Boston Garden
Memories may be cloudy, but they sure are great. After graduating from school, my first big purchase was going to be a Celtic's seasons ticket. However, we chose to sit it as many different sections in the garden the year before our big purchase so that we could pick our favorite spot. What a great
time we had. Doubleheaders. Globetrotter's, playoff game after playoff game.
We made friends with a man who worked the ticket booth, he always had great seats saved for us. We were young, and totally in love with the Celtics.
We sat in North Station from 1:00 AM waiting for tickets to be sold for the playoffs. What a time in my life.
I gave up those tickets once I made the decision to get married, finances, you know. But my heart still stayed with this great team. I will never forget
that triple overtime game, I stood in live forever to get those tickets. What a game!!!!
This article brought back so many memories that I have of that old, loveable building. Thanks for reminding me!!!

Avatar photo taken outside Boston Garden around 11 p.m. on the night before a 1962 playoff game. I'm in the chair. Appeared on the front page of the Boston Traveler (then the evening paper in Boston) the following day.
