Looking for hoops and a Rivers? Coach K goes for record vs. Michigan St on Tuesday

In what promises to be a good early season game Coach Mike Krzyzewski takes his Duke Blue Devils up against the Michigan State Spartans led by Coach Tom Izzo.

Coach K is currently tied with Bobby Knight for all time wins in Division 1 mens basketball with 902.

Duke is ranked number 6 and Michigan State is playing for the shot to jump into the top 25 rankings.

Duke has a talented front-court, an experienced and steady PG in Seth Curry and a promising freshman SG by the name of Austin Rivers. Rivers, of course, is the son of a coach we all wish was on the court right now.

The game will be played at Madison Square Garden, game time is 7 p.m. eastern. As they say, check your local TV listings for coverage.


Edit; The game is scheduled for ESPN at 7 on Tuesday as part of 24 straight hours of college basketball game coverage starting at midnight.

Coach K gets win number 903 and the record.

Good chance he gets 1,000, and the debate has long been underway on his place among the game's greatest coaches. Rupp, Wooden, Knight, Smith or Krzyzewski; it's a good debate.

Austin Rivers had a tough night but you can tell he's going to be as good as advertised. Having Krzyzewski coach him will give him the big edge in his development toward a shot at the NBA.

Next game up tonight is Kansas vs Kentucky with Dickie V calling the game.

Basketball season is under way and in good hands.

Old Jimmy Boeheim at Syracuse is solidly in the 800+ win level. (856-301) heading into this season. Who knows how much longer he'll stick around. Seems to be the consensus is that Mike Hopkins is the heir apparent when that time comes but if an offer comes from somewhere else????? Hoppy might be gone.

As for the 800+ wins, and him being in the HOF, just not real sure that means much. You look at his season by season wins and see 10 plus wins a year against the likes of Colgate, LeMoyne ( yes LeMoyne did beat them a couple years ago) Sienna ect. Add um all up and there are arguably 250+ (perhaps closer to 300) wins that almost anyone picked off the street could win coaching that team.

I can think of many times his coaching decisions have lost games. He loves the his zone but refuses to come out of it when it sure appears he should.

It will be very interesting to see how well this team does this year. They have as much talent and size as any team he has had in many years. They are deep and long and can shoot the trey, ( funny they can't shoot foul shots ). These are the teams that seem to fall short of peoples expectations. When he has a team that is somewhat under the radar he seems to do better with um.

Suppose to get some snow over the next couple days up here on the TUG. Blower has been on the tractor for a couple weeks and just put the chains on the tires last evening..... guess I'm as ready as I can be.

The Orange look like they can play some D too, not that Albany was a good test (and in many ways they looked better against Fordham).

Fairly warm so far down on our end of the lake. I'm waiting to put the snow mats in the cars because that always feels like admitting defeat! Of course even with the lake effect we don't get anywhere near the snow you guys on the east end get.

Funny that every time the debate starts about paying collegiate athletes the fact they're on scholarship never comes up.

Quite enough for sure.

As for Pa one thing that I note is that during the NBA draft just how many "fathers" are actually there to see their son get drafted. Way to few so it seems, It's sad in some cases.
