If Artest was under the domain of one Roger Goodell, he would have been disciplined by now, and rather harshly to fit the malice of his act. As Tony Baretta would say, pre Bonnie Lee Blakely, "Don't Do the Crime, if you can't do the Time." My Bad, that was Sammy Davis Jr! I won't listen to Fred, the cockatoo anymore! (lol)

Last few regular season games and round 1 of the playoffs would be fair.

He's not as quick with the trigger as you think.
On Oct 8, 2008, Pac Man Jones had his OFF FIELD incident with drinking and the police and a scuffle with his bodyguard.
On Oct. 15 Goodell announced he was suspended 4 games minimum and Goodell would determine the final lenght of the suspension after the November 16 game. At that time Jerry Jones sat him for 2 more, he did retuen got hurt and was released at the end of the season.
Took him a week to find out the facts and make his decision.
Being usually a week between games fines and suspensions in the NFL usually are done a day or 2 later.

With his track record he'll be lucky to get off that cheap.

What would be fair to Metta World Piss is a playoff ban, and zero tolerance similar to the one inflicted on Bob Knight that forced his departure from University of Indiana some years ago. If Artest engaged in any future similar behavior, this would banish him from the NBA permanently. I believe the NBA would be better without hoods like Artest!

Beat,
My guess is first round of playoffs. Means nothing to Lakers.

when you watch the replay of that hit, it just doesn't seem possible that he did not do it on purpose. He could feel Harden's body right next to him, even Barckley and Shaq said that last night. 7 games is just not enough, he is a danger to anyone playing on the court with him. No guts Stern!!

rosalie,
He could feel a body next to him, he probably didn't see him.
That means that if it was one of his own team mates, lets say Kobe Bryant, then he could get a new name as well!!!

I like how NHL deals with their stuff with publishing a video explaining the motivation etc.
Example:

If I were Hardin, I'd secure the services of a slick lawyer and slap Artest (Peace) with a law suit for assault with the intent to do bodily harm. I'd make sure the suit contained a settlement figure so high even JG Wentworth wouldn't even touch the structured settlement!

Do they have some protection against those kind of suits in the NBA? I have never seen anyone sue a player, did RudyT sue Kermit????

I remember the Rudy T./Kermit Washington incident of several decades ago. However, I do not remember Tomjanovich pursuing legal action against Washington. I don' think people were as prone to seek the service of ambulance chasers as some people are today.

On Artest - The suspension was a JOKE! 7 Games. So you are telling me he looses 1 game of salary and some playoff games!!!!!! How about ....Your out until Harden plays and then you sit 7 games and Oh by the way you're light $500,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

112288:
The suspension should be 28 games to cover a possible 4 consecutive seven game series for the Lakers. The fine should be $500,000 plus damages awarded by the court to Hardin.

The other obvious thing that makes it clear it was on purpose was he never turned around in shock that he hit someone. He never turned back to look at or check on him. Also, unbelievably, a couple seconds after, as he was running down the court, he pounded his chest once with his left hand as if to say, "Look at what I did! Look how tough I am!" Amazing and stupid.

His fine is actually only $102,888.48. Since he only misses one regular season game, he loses 1/66th of his $6,790,640 salary. Boy did he get off easy doing this in the second to last game of the season.
