If the Celts get the Jeff Green back of his Georgetown days, this will be a real boost for the C's banner #18 push in 2012-'13. With what he has gone through, heart trauma and any heart ailment or procedure is difficult on anyone much less someone who is trying to play a physically taxing sport like basketball. I'm thankful that he survived his health scare and wish him all the mental and physical strength and dedication it will take for him to make it as far back as possible.

Of course there will be some lingering concerns but the best doctors have worked on him and they say he is ready. I am more concerned with Green's head right now than his heart so to speak. Will he let loose or will he be a bit tentaive. It will probably take time to regain not only his basketball timing but as he does I believe he will also gain confidence that he will be able to play hard.

I am also sure there will be ongoing monitoring of him through out the season.

Now lets get this group on the floor and kick some butts! I'm as excited as I've been since the preseason of 08!

Great news......time to head to Europe and get this thing rolling.

The Red Sox are providing no distraction this summer....so I too am anxious for this thing to get going.

Feeling very good about this season.

The official starting date for NBA teams engaged in international pre-season, which we are, is September 29th. The good news is that opening day for camps for teams that are NOT playing overseas is October 2nd, so we get a few extra days.

37 days and counting down.

I read your article. It's all over the map.

First, he goes after Green's defense as a PF. When was rhat? When he was with OKC, when they had softie Nenad Krstic anchoring the defense?

Then they talk about him guarding "wings" like Kobe Bryant and Deron Williams, a 2 and a 1.
So, because Green is a weak defender at PF, let's put up against a great shooting guard and one of the 5 PGs in the league. If you could put inanity to music this guy would be Baryshnikov.

your use of word "inanity" prompted me to recall that this guy, Zach Lowe, wrote something about Celtics or a Celtic a year or two ago. That article also had very little substance? Or, maybe I'm just making thing up?

BTW, Baryshnikov is a ballet dancer. Perhaps Tchaikovsky?

Getting extended minutes in training camp, pre season & early season should help Green become acclamated to whatever role or roles Doc has in mind for him. We'll soon find out about Jeff's true basketball IQ. Don't forget he went to Georgetown, renowned academically. Jeff has his Bachelors, Doc & KG will school him on obtaining his Master's.

The Celts arguably lost two decades of dominance due to failing hearts. After Bias's death, Larry said it was "the cruelest thing" he had ever heard. If you can imagine Bias and Reggie as inside-outside terrors running opponents ragged on some Celtic team that never was, then you have to admit, after Len and kin, the fans got the cruelest break.

What to make then of 2012, when not one but two Celtics are coming back from life-threatening heart ailments? You could say it was a pendulum swinging or some cycle flowing up and down. History repeats itself and then remakes itself. There's a deep-seated synchronicity here, it's just too early to tell what it's tending towards.

Not really sure about failing hearts esp with Bias.

He put crap in his system the heart was never meant to deal with. And in the process he broke several others. (hearts)

And I am far from sure we really have all the truth about Reggie either and probably never will. It is what it is and nothing will change that.

It's one thing to have a heart that is diseased, it quite another thing to abuse it. It does appear that both Green and Wilcox were very fortuate that their abnormalities were discovered, would they have been so lucky 20 years ago? Certainly medical science regarding heart ailments have improved greatly in since 1986.

When I was a little tyke I had to go to the heart specialist because I had a heart murmer. I remember getting hooked up on the old EKG machine. And having to eat the paste chalk like stuff so they could take xrays.

Never had an issue and the doctors were right that I would grow out of it.

Can't wait to see how this team evolves. Seeds have been planted but like any plant can't reap the harvest for several months!

I had the pleasure of watching Mikhail Baryshnikov dance, towards the end of his career. A girlfriend, knowing my appreciation of ballet (although I can't dance a stitch myself) took me to see him as a birthday gift. He may have lost and inch or two off the top of his jette, but he still had the body control to hang in the air and make himself look weightless. Aging grace. What I love about ballet is that it's athletics, as demanding as any other sport or athletic endeavor you can name, AND it's synchronized to music. Ok, maybe water ballet is tougher, Baryshnikov didn't have to worry about drowning.

I picked Baryshnikov because of the way that writer was dancing around to try to pan Green by saying he can't defend 4s and then matching him up with 1s and 2s but not against 3s, perhaps because doing so wouldn't allow him to deliver his already selected conclusion (that Green's an overrated bust) and make him miss his deadline because he had to re-write the piece. The editorial staff must have been on holiday.

Tchaikovsky and Baryshnikov do go together though, don't they, like peas and carrots (I'm channeling my inner Forrest Gump)? :-)
