Kris Joseph is back with the Celtics after being recalled from Maine.
Celtics rookie forward Kris Joseph was recalled Friday from the Maine Red Claws of the NBA Development League.

With Jeff Green (knee) and Chris Wilcox (illness) questionable for Friday's visit from the Portland Trail Blazers -- and a back-to-back looming Saturday in Milwaukee -- the Celtics brought back Joseph, one of two rookies on assignment, in order to add depth.

The Celtics are already operating shorthanded as Rajon Rondo was suspended Thursday for two games. Meanwhile, Avery Bradley is still rehabbing from double shoulder surgery, meaning that -- accounting for Green and Wilcox -- the Celtics had only 10 truly healthy bodies before recalling Joseph.

If Green can't go, Joseph provides depth behind Paul Pierce at a thin swingman spot (Courtney Lee could also shuffle over to that spot at times).

Rookie Fab Melo remains on assignment in Maine.

Kris Joseph has been reassigned to Maine.

Jeff Green struggles and tweaks his knee, Kris Joseph shows up in Boston with suitcase in hand, Jeff Green goes on a tear for a few games and Kris Joseph packs his bags and heads back north.

All coincidence?

Not.

Now let's see how Green does...

Bob- I know you are skeptical of just what Green can contribute to the Celtics, and his contract was a major problem for you. But, I will say just a couple of things about his return. Yes, he has been up and down, at times a disappointment (1/9), and yes, he just hasn't been consistent yet.

However, and it is a big HOWEVER, let's just realize what this kid has been through this year. Coming back from major surgery like he had sometimes can take months and months, even a year. It is unbelievable to me that he is running up and down the court at the speed which he does. Wilcox is another example, and look, he got the flu and you, Doc, Paul Pierce, anyone else could have fought that off in a day and been back at full strength. The immune system takes it's time in helping someone return to form. It may sound like excuses to some, but believe me, I marvel at these guys and what they are accomplishing.

Granted, one year down the road I may say Danny should have never resigned him to such a contract. It is a major hit on the salary cap. But, please, everyone give these kids a chance to grow, slow and easy. Maybe the results will be rewarding to all of us, mostly the Celtics!

Bob,

I understand your deduction however Maine had a game on Sunday and the objective is to get Joseph enough work.

With Jeff Green...............it's all mental..............Jeff keep watching your highlight DVD.

What can I say, I'm a cynic.

Anyway, here's a happy sendoff for you, Kris. You're in the books...

12/21/12.

Just in time for the end of the world. Kris Joseph must know every truck stop from Bangor to Boston by now. Micah Downs and Shelvin Mack must be wondering what they gotta do to get a call up too.

The Boston Celtics have recalled rookie forward Kris Joseph from the Maine Red Claws.

The
announcement was made prior to the Celtics' game vs. the Bucks, which
means Joseph could be active for it if Doc Rivers chooses to activate
him.

In seven games for the Red Claws, Joseph is averaging 20.9
points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 2.0 steals in 38.1 minutes per
game.

He was ranked fifth in NBA D-League in points per game at the time of his recall.

I'd say they just have to have been drafted and signed to a rookie contract thereby guaranteeing the team would want to get some mileage out of them!

I would love to see Mack get a call and a few minutes to show his stuff; last I heard he's been lighting it up in the D league.
