Pete,

One of drawbacks of getting older is forgetting where you hid them!

Happy Easter Empty Re: Happy Easter

Post by Sam Mon Apr 01, 2013 4:32 pm

About 20 years ago, my wife's family held their annual Easter egg hunt. Sally's dad would put anything from a dime to a quarter in each plastic egg, and he'd occasionally sweeten the pot with a dollar bill. Then he hid the eggs in the front yard of their house (where we now live) on the Cape.

My brother-in-law, who has always been very grabby where money was concerned (I don't know how he came out the birth canal with his hand out like that) would run roughshod over his own kids to collect as much as possible for himself.

So, this one year, I snuck a $100 bill into one of the eggs I found. And, when we gathered to count our money and declare a winner, as I opened that egg, I jumped up and exclaimed to Sally's dad, "Holy cow, Henry, you were much too generous.". Both Sally's dad and Sally's brother became apoplectic, and they stayed that way until I chose to let the in on the scam.

One of the best Easters ever.

Sam-good story. I hid plastic eggs all over the house at Easter time every year. The kids made a bundle and my husband and I enjoyed watching them.
One year, after they had counted their eggs, I told them that there were two missing. They hunted and hunted, as did I. Never found them until the summer time when I was moving furniture to clean. Low and behold, there were the eggs. I pocketed the money, then tormented them for about a week, only to give in in the end. Isn't that what being a parent is all about?

In Germany we have something for Easter you don't have in the States.
Easter Egg Trees! I kid you not. And if you don't believe me Google "ostereier baum" and click on "Images for ostereier baum". Shocked

Berlin,

You must not understand my wife. She decorates for all holidays. This year, she made two trees for Easter, one small one for the dining room table and one big one that went in the bow window where our Christmas tree goes. Both trees had no leaves, due to the time of year. The small one was a simple one with small colored sparkly eggs hanging on it. The big one had larger eggs, various chocolates, white lights, green garland and it needed a stand to hold it.

This is the first year that she did this, so perhaps she found the ostereier baum on the internet for inspiration.

Gyso,

Thanks for the nice post although since I don't know your wife, I don't know how I could possibly understand her.

There is however one difference between your wife's trees and those here; easter egg trees in Germany are mostly actual trees or bushes growing outside in people's gardens. And quite often the "eggs" are not really eggs but small balloons in the shape of eggs. So it's quite amusing to take a walk while "admiring" all the easter egg trees.
