Jackie Mac Hearing that KG WANTS to come back for another season
There's a difference between not agreeing to a trade, and having the no-trade clause that stops it, and WANTING to play.
Boston Celtics rumors 2013: Jackie MacMullan hearing that Kevin Garnett wants to come back for another season
on May 31, 2013 at 11:04 AM
Boston Celtics center Kevin Garnett is leaning toward returning for another season but his decision could ultimately depend on whether he requires surgery, ESPN Boston's Jackie MacMullan reported Thursday night on CSNNE's UNO Sports Tonight.
"Who holds all the cards? Kevin Garnett," MacMullan said. "Kevin Garnett may or may not need surgery, we haven't heard either way. That might determine whether he wants to come back for another year. I'm hearing that he wants to come back for one year. That's what I'm hearing right now. So if he comes back for one more year- he holds all the cards, he has a no-trade clause, he can kind of call the shots here. If he comes back, maybe he says 'Well, I'm not coming back unless Pierce comes back.
"Maybe you make a trade for Pierce at the deadline. You have deadlines with Pierce. Pierce holds none of the cards. So it all depends on KG. So that's why nothing's happened yet. Because I don't think KG's fully decided, A) if he needs surgery, B) if he was going to do the surgery, C) if he wants to come back. I think if he wants to come back he'll probably play for Boston. So that's why you haven't heard anything, because we're all waiting for KG."
MacMullan's beliefs mesh with a recent report that Garnett's health will be the most important factor in his decision. President of basketball operations Danny Ainge indicated earlier this month that the 15-time All-Star, who missed 10 of Boston's last 13 regular season games with bone spurs in his foot/ankle, isn't likely to require surgery. After the Celtics bowed out of the playoffs, Garnett said he'd take some time and alert the media once he decides on next year.
And what happens if Garnett chooses not to return?
"Then you can definitely wave goodbye to Paul Pierce," MacMullan said.
So yeah, Kevin, no pressure on your decision. No pressure at all.

Re: Jackie Mac Hearing that KG WANTS to come back for another season
I truly feel if they want to trade KG he will retire. Why did they bother giving him a no trade contract one year ago??? Sorry, KG retires in green, that is the way I feel. Whether he decides that his body has had it or he has enough in the tank to come back for one last year is up to him. He has all the balls in his court, and don't think for a minute Danny and Wyc don't know this. It is kind of hypocritical, they knew what they were getting into when he signed this contract
So, Fosberg is insinuating that KG has the fate of PP in his hands also????

Rosalie,
This article wasn't written by Forsberg, it was written by another blogger about Jackie MacMullan's article. What she is saying is that KG holds all the cards. He could, not will but could, say "if you trade Pierce before the season starts, I'm retiring". Since KG is more valuable to the team right now than Pierce that threat, however subtly it might be delivered, might be enough to force Danny and Wyc to make a different set of decisions.
