Visit to the Basketball Hall of Fame
Hope everyone is having an enjoyable summer, lots going on with the Celtics to say the least.
Today I visited the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA with our youngest board member Brandon and his brother Trevor. What a treasure trove of history. I'd love to incorporate a visit with one of our events some day, though it is a bit over an hour west of Boston. I enjoyed the historic part of the place, while there was enough interactive things for a 13 and 14 year old to keep them from tuning me out as I attempted to teach them about Celtic lore.
One video and a few pictures from our visit. Hope you enjoy them!

I couldn't resist attempting Johnny's Havlicek Stole the Ball! The attendant said Bostonians can not walk by without giving it a try. If you click on it it should bring to photobucket where it will play. Havlicek shoots at the end and a fan gets the rebound and races off the court with it. Wonder where that ball is today?

Manute Bol was tall, and Mugsy was short!
Larry is my favorite player of all time.
But in the gift shop Brandon picked out a picture of MJ. I have to work on him some more.

Antoine Walker was there for a talk, and then a question and answer period. He talked about a lot of things, but he emphasized the hard work and time it takes to hone your skills. He also mentioned something I've told the kids, and have heard before, and that is somewhere out there there is another kid practicing 5 hours a day, and if you think it is OK to skip a day, or only practice 3 hours a day, that other kid is grinning.....
That is it, hope you enjoy!

Thanks for sharing those pictures, bobc! I like your idea of incorporating that trip with a future annual board meeting.

Bob,
These are from our visit last summer. I never did post them but thought perhaps I might add them here with your photos. The HOF would make a great Sam's gathering spot.
The Original Celtics. From New York!
If they ask about your Irish heritage, this is an acceptable answer...
Until the day he was born, we told people we were naming him Cousy. A few started to believe!
Mom, can you get that for me?
Hey Dad, I thought you said you could block his shot?
We asked him to stand in front of the jersey of the greatest player ever. This is where he went.
We'll miss this guy...
Right in the middle of the place; The Court of Dreams. Everyone gets to shoot around.
Who can resist a chance for a reverse slam?
What photo would you post at the end?

NYC, nice looks like Michael had a great time. We spent a good part of the time dunking on the short hoops too. They got in line over and over and over......

Re: Visit to the Basketball Hall of Fame
My son and I flew up to NY last Thursday.
We had dinner with my mom and made it to our hotel in Cooperstown in time to watch the second half of game 7 of the Finals.
On Friday we spent all day at the Baseball Hall of Fame and in the memorabilia stores near the Hall of Fame.
Friday night we made the 2 1/2 drive to Springfield, MA and went to the Basketball Hall of Fame. Flew back to Tampa from Hartford Saturday night.
Yes, it was a quick trip but one that will be memorable for myself and my son TJ who is 18.

TJ,
That makes for a great weekend tour!
I tell people the basketball HOF is like going to the gym and looking at the trophy case, but the baseball HOF is like going to church. There is something incredibly reverent about Cooperstown. I don't mean that to sound like Springfield isn't wonderful, everyone should go, it's more that Cooperstown has a historic feel to it that's hard to match. I don't know where you stayed, but we stayed at the Otesaga, which is about the only hotel in town with everything else being small Inns or B&Bs. As grand and classic as it is, it seemed pretty dated and over the top in price! My son plays Babe Ruth League baseball, and there's an annual tournament played behind the HOF at Doubleday Field we hope our team can enter next season.
We still need to get to Canton, OH for the football HOF; anyone been there?
Regards
