Ok, now that it's official, it's time to deal with "the new normal", to quote George W Bush, and face the reality of our new roster look.

The Newest Celtics
July 13, 2013 7:59 AM

BOSTON (CBS) – There’s no telling what the Boston Celtics will look like when opening night rolls around in November, but for now they have a whole new crop of players courtesy of the Brooklyn Nets.

While the prize of the Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett swap are the three first-round selections the Celtics received  over the next five years, five new players are Boston bound in Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace, MarShon Brooks, Keith Bogans and Kris Joseph.

The Celtics now have 15 players signed for next season, though Joseph and forward Shavlik Randolph do not have guaranteed contracts, and second-round pick Colton Iverson remains unsigned. Add in the likelihood the Celtics will add a backup point guard (with Waltham’s Phil Pressey the most probable candidate following a strong summer league showing), and all signs point to moves coming from Danny Ainge in the near future.

Chances are a few of the Brooklyn Five won’t make it to training camp, but for now they are Celtics, so why not get to know them?

Kris Humphries

Power Forward — 6-9, 235 lbs

- Played one season at Minnesota University in 2004, averaging 21.9 points and 10.1 rebounds per game — both tops in the Big Ten.

-  Selected 14th overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2004 NBA Draft.

- Has played in 558 career games between Utah, Toronto, Dallas and New Jersey/Brooklyn with career averages of 6.6 points and 5.5 rebounds in 17.9 minutes per game.

- Posted his best statistical season in 2011-12 when he started 62 games and averaged 13.8 points, 11.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.2 blocks.

- In 16 career playoff games, has averaged 2.5 points and 2.5 rebounds.

- His trade to Boston is the fourth time he has been traded in his career.

- Played in the McDonald’s All-America Game in 2003.

- Was married to Kim Kardashian for 72 days.

- Has worn #43 his entire career.

Humphries is a very good rebounder that finds ways to score. The 28-year-old is signed through the end of the season for $12 million, so his expiring contract could be a nice trade chip for Danny Ainge in the coming weeks or at the trade deadline, or a way for the Celtics to trim some payroll for next season. It will be interesting to see how Humphries and Rajon Rondo get along after their scratching/shoving match last November, but for now the Celtics have a productive player in the paint playing for a contract.

Gerald Wallace

Small Forward — 6-7, 215 lbs

- After one year at Alabama, was drafted 25th overall by the Sacramento Kings in the 2001 NBA Draft.

- Played three seasons with the Kings before being selected by the Charlotte Bobcats in the 2004 expansion draft.

- Has posted career averages of 12.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.5 steals in 742 career games over 12 seasons.

- Was named to his only All-Star team in 2009-10 while with Charlotte. That season, averaged a double-double with 18.2 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.

- Was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team during the 2009-10 season.

- His trade to Boston is the fourth time he has been traded. His 2012 trade to the Nets landed the Portland Trail Blazers the 6th overall selection in the 2012 NBA draft, which they used to pick Rookie of the Year Damian Lillard.

- Played in the McDonald’s All-America Game in 2000 in Boston.

- Wore #45 in Brooklyn. Also wore #3 earlier in his career, but that is retire for Dennis Johnson.

Wallace is a solid veteran that plays very good defense, but comes with a hefty price tag to the tune of $30.3 million over the next three seasons. He’s started all but one of the 185 games he’s played the last four seasons, so it will be interesting to see where he fits into the Celtics plan next season and beyond.

Keith Bogans

Shooting Guard/Small Forward — 6-5, 215 lbs

- Selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the 2003 NBA Draft (43rd overall) but was traded to the Orlando Magic.

- Has appeared in 665 games during his 10-year career, averaging 6.4 points and 2.7 rebounds per game.

- Averaged 4.2 points with the Nets last season in 74 games, including 23 starts.

- The Celtics are his eighth team in his 10-year career, and the trade to Boston is the fifth of his career.

- Named a McDonald’s All American in 1999.

- Averaged 14.2 points and 4.1 rebounds in four years at Kentucky.

- Was named SEC Player of the Year in 2003 and SEC Tournament MVP in 2001 and 2003.

- Bogans will have to find a new number to don the back of his jersey. The three he has worn over his career are all retired by Boston — #3 for DJ, #6 for Bill Russell and #10 for JoJo White.

Bogans is a savvy veteran who is good in the locker room and can knock down the occasional three. As a sign-and-trade from Brooklyn, he will get a three-year deal with only the first year guaranteed.

MarShon Brooks

Shooting Guard — 6-5, 200 lbs

- Originally drafted by the Celtics with the 25th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft, but was traded to the Nets for JaJuan Johnson (27th overall) and a 2014 second-round pick.

- Averaged 12.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 56 games (47 starts) for the Nets as a rookie and was named to the NBA All-Rookie second team.

- Appeared in 73 games for the Nets last season but averaged just 12.5 minutes per game, averaging 5.4 points on 46-percent shooting.

- Averaged 24.6 points per game his senior year at Providence — tops in the Big East. He scored 52 points against Notre Dame, tying a school record and setting a new Big East record.

- Wore #9 with the Nets.

At just 24, Brooks is a young scorer the Celtics could build around or potentially use as a trade chip down the road. He had a bumpy sophomore year in the NBA, but will likely get his share of minutes  – if he earns them — as Boston rebuilds and determines their future building blocks.

Kris Joseph

Small Forward — 6-7, 210-lbs

- Originally drafted by the Celtics with the 51th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.

- Was waived by the Celtics in January after splitting time between Boston and the Maine Red Claws. Appeared in six games for the Celtics, scoring seven points in 24 minutes on the floor.

- Signed a 10-day contract with the Nets in April, appearing in four games.

- Played in 27 games last year in the NBA Developmental League between the Springfield Armor and the Maine Red Claws. Joseph averaged 18.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.7 steals in 34.0 minutes per game and was named to the All-NBDL Second Team.

- Was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec.

- Wore #43 with the Celtics and #24 with the Nets last season. The Celtics retired Sam Jones’ #24 in 1969.

Joseph’s contract is not guaranteed next season if waived before August 1st. Should he make it that far, the Celtics will only have to pay him $100,000 if waived before the season begins. He’ll have to prove himself for a roster spot, but didn’t get a chance in the Orlando Summer League since he was technically still a Net. Chances are he will be cut by the Celtics for the second time in eight months.

MY NOTE:  I knew that Keith Bogans had to get a 3 year contract to make the numbers work and comply with the CBA, I didn't know that only the first year is guaranteed.  That makes him trade bait (since he only has this year guaranteed, he essentially is an expiring contract since the acquiring team can not pick up years 2 and 3 and he's gone).  That is making me like this deal even more (although there is the lingering sadness of losing Pierce and KG.  It just has to happen).

72 days with Kim K?  That sounds like something I could do.  Hell, I was in New Zealand for 49 days and their hills got nothing on hers.  Any more than that, though, and I'd be out the door too.  I'd actually be ok watching him get under a player's skin while he's in green.  Red always said a team needs an instigator.  Maybe he's ours.

Kris Joseph was waived prior to the press conference and Gerald Wallace was excused from it so he could attend the 1st day of his basketball camp.

Do these look like happy campers?  Keith Bogans, who made out like a freaking bandit, looks like he's at a funeral.  Marshon Brooks, who tripped and fell hard into Avery Johnson's dog house, looks like he's thinking "I absolutely canNOT fucking believe this happened" and Kris Humphries is, to paraphrase another blogger, holding the jersey like it was about to burst into flames.

On the other hand, Brad Stevens still has his Mr. Rogers smile on and Danny's mentally counting how many more calls he'll have to make before some of these guys are gone and whether getting cauliflower ear will be worth it.

Oh yeah.  These guys are sticking around...

Caught a clip of the news conference; it looked like these guys were in pain!  No attempt to act happy, especially Kardashian's 'happy to be here,' dripping with sarcasm.  Pretty sure most all will be gone soon, but hope we hold onto Brooks.

On that note...

No surprise to this report of Celts looking to deal Wallace and Kardashian.

Brian Kotloff from SI Wire wrote:The Celtics may look to trade both Wallace and Humphries, according to CSNNE.com’s Sherrod Blakely.

A short useless article based on a short useless quote from A. Sherrod Blakely.  It was so short that it didn't even include the "A", which may stand for "Amazingly Obvious Reporter", or is it Oblivious?

What exactly is a Kardashian?  Is it similar to a Vulcan or a Klingon?  Aren't they related to the prior and act like the latter?  I haven't kept up on my Star Trek alien races, sorry to say!!

Gyso,

Make that Kim Kardashian.  I suppose the Kardashians could be mistaken for an alien race; I never was much into any of those space shows, but I think they would fit in well!

Doesn't matter if he plays for us for not, I can't let up on Humphries for that one, it's just too easy a setup.  It may have been a 72 day deal, but I have referred to him as Kardashian ever since. If he does play for us, I'll be in front of the TV cheering for him with something like "nice shot Kardashian!"

Regards

Now, c'mon, can you really blame Hump for taking a shot at that? When I was his age I'd have killed for her.
