Scola to Indy?
Adrian W of Yahoo Sports reports that final negotiations are underway to complete the trade of Luis Scola from Phoenix to Indy for Gerald Green and a bunch of draft picks (the specifics of this last part is what is left to do).

Suns close to dealing Luis Scola to Pacers
The Indiana Pacers are nearing completion of a deal to acquire Phoenix Suns forward Luis Scola, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
The Pacers and Suns were finalizing the players and possible picks involved in the deal on Friday night, and front-office sources expected an agreement to be finalized soon.
While the deal was still being finalized overnight, the Pacers will minimally send the Suns a future first-round draft pick, as well as possible additional draft and cash considerations to go along with guard Gerald Green, sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Indiana has been pursuing Scola for several weeks. The forward had become available to teams because of the Suns' movement toward a rebuild under new general manager Ryan McDonough.

Scola, 33, could be a huge asset to the Pacers as they try to unseat the two-time defending champion Miami Heat and compete with the elite of the Eastern Conference. Scola is a gifted offensive player, with strong character and leadership. He could go a long way toward strengthening the Pacers' bench behind David West at power forward.
Scola averaged 12.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 82 games for the Suns a season ago.
He has two years and $9 million left on his contract.
In the five previous seasons with the Houston Rockets, Scola had been one of the NBA's most versatile and offensively gifted scoring and passing forwards. He's averaged 14 points and 7.5 rebounds in his NBA career. He was a star in Argentina before joining the Rockets for the 2007-08 season. He has a storied international career on the Argentina national team.

MY NOTE: I love Luis Scola (truthfully, I love most Latino players. They are tough, tough hombres. Even King Flopper, Manu Ginobili, is incredibly competitive). His agent calls him "the best below-the-rim player in the league" and I agree with him (although Zack Randolph is really, really close and is younger). If Larry Legend can squash the Lakers' hopes of landing George next year, they are going to have an amazing team. Tall, young and strong and not all that slow either. A powerhouse in the east. From Phoenix's perspective, it's all about the picks, because Gerald Green is not a building block to anywhere.

Pacers Acquire Luis Scola; Send Green, Plumlee, Future No. 1 Pick to Suns
Official Release
July 27, 2013
INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Pacers announced Saturday they have acquired veteran forward/center Luis Scola from the Phoenix Suns in exchange for forward Gerald Green, center Miles Plumlee and a future No. 1 draft pick.
The 6-9, 245-pound Scola, a native of Argentina, played five seasons with the Houston Rockets and last season with the Suns. He has career averages of 14.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. The 33-year-old Scola is a regular member of Argentina’s national team, having won a gold medal in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
"I’m very, very excited to play for the Pacers,” said Scola. “They are one of the top three teams in the NBA with a good shot to win a championship. I think it’s a great team and this is a great opportunity. I can’t wait.”
"Luis will be a very important asset to our team and to our bench,” said Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird. “He has NBA experience, international experience and is the type of player that will fit in nicely on our roster. I want to thank Gerald and Miles for their contributions. They had tough years last season, but worked hard, never complained and contributed to the great chemistry our team had. I think Gerald and Miles will be solid additions in Phoenix and we wish them well."
Green was signed as a free agent in 2012 and played in 60 games for the Pacers, averaging 7.0 points per game with a single-game high of 34. Plumlee was the Pacers’ No. 1 pick in the 2012 draft (26th overall) out of Duke and appeared in 14 games averaging 0.9 points and 1.6 rebounds. He played in 15 games last season for the Pacers’ NBA Development League affiliate, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, averaging 11.2 points and 10.2 rebounds.

MY NOTE: Phoenix now has Marcin Gortat, Miles Plumlee and Alex Len. Might they give one of them up for the right price? I'd take any one of those three (subject to what they want in return, of course). At PF, they have Markieff Morris and Channing Frye. How about a nice PF for you, Suns fans? How about Bass? He's in his prime and a real pro. How about a nice expiring contract like Hump's? One can dream.

Re: Scola to Indy?
Pluck a center from the Suns? My thoughts exactly, Bob. How about Gortat for Humphries even-up? The trade works financially. Both are expiring contract players. Boston saves an extra $5 toward the cap this season; Phoenix saves an extra $5 million toward the cap next season. Throw in a couple of first-rounders, which the Celtics have to burn.
I could be reasonably happy to have a seasoned center (only age 29) starting, with Vitor and maybe Olynyk at times learning how to fit in at the position In fact, I'd like to see the following combination on the floor at times: twin towers of Gortat and Olynyk at C and PF respectively, with Green at SF. Add the midget brigade (Pressey and Bradley) to give opponents fits bringing the ball up, and it could be fun. Note that I didn't say it could be a winning combination, but it would be fun..

KJ,
Ham with a lot of mustard, but still not a complete sandwich despite the efforts of many coaches.
