TONIGHT

Mon 9/8c

Another first this year is Shark Cam, a robot submarine that is used to track sharks in a new and exciting way. This SHARK WEEK special includes spectacular footage of Shark Cam following Great White sharks living and hunting off the shores of Cape Cod, the setting for the Jaws film franchise. Footage of a 17-foot Great White is seen at close range over a five hour period as the shark hunts seal colonies, comes close to shore in less than four feet of water and takes a chilling interest in one specific area.

Sam......No swimming for you and Sally!

112288,

Thanks. No worries. We swim in ponds in preference to the ocean.

My avocation is diving for shipwrecks, and last time out three sharks circled us from about 30 feet away. Spooky. All caught on Go Pro.

worcester,

Most sharks are harmless; White tips, Makos and especially Bull Sharks are not.  There is, however, a dive spot near Islas Mujeres, off of Cozumel, Mexico called Cave of the Sleeping Sharks (I don't know its name in spanish).  Divers go there and watch them.  Sharks need water constantly flowing over their gills to breathe.  There is an underground spring in this cave, however, that allows air bubbles to rise past the sharks and provides them with the oxygen they need.

I didn't dive this when I was in Cozumel all those years ago but, if I go back, you can count on it.

Getting my PADI Wreck Diving specialty is on my to-do list. I have my Advanced, I just want my course to be in a great dive spot. Truk lagoon, comes to mind. There's half a Japanese fleet down there.

Bob, I've been looking for a French slaver that sank in 1792. When we find it that'll be quite an interesting dive. If we can keep the bull sharks away. One charged right up onto my dive partner (who had a bag full of freshly speared grouper on his arm). Fortunately a stout jab onto his nose with the butt of the spear gun sent him scurrying away. Close call. I hate going spear fishing for that reason.

Did you see the report of the 920 lb tuna caught this week on Cape Cod? Wish I was there to see that! A couple of weeks too late!
