Having some problems with the site today. Strange. The nav bar that lets you add pics and videos isn't appearing and the text is small. Also, no italics or bold.

Celtics 2nd draft pick likely to be number 18
By Jeff Clark  @celticsblog on Apr 10 2014, 9:58p 51

Will it eventually lead to Banner 18?

With only a handful of games left on the schedule and a 3 game cushion on either side of Brooklyn, baring any drastic swings in the standings it appears that the Celtics will be getting the 18th pick in the NBA draft as part of the Pierce/Garnett trade from this offseason. (h/t Gary Washburn)

For point of reference, here's a look at all the #18 picks in the NBA Draft history. It includes names like Eric Bledsoe, Ty Lawson, David West, and old friend Gerald Green.

In fact, the last time we had the 18th pick it led to Gerald Green which led to Kevin Garnett which led to a Championship. So surely history will repeat itself in exactly that way, right?

Draft Express currently has the following names slotted in the 15 to 20 range.

Nik Stauskas
James Young
T.J. Warren
Kyle Anderson
Montrezl Harrell
Of those names, Kevin O'Connor has Stauskas rated the highest as well.

Nik Stauskas ended his sophomore season in impressive fashion, with a 24-point performance against Kentucky. Even though Michigan lost, Stauskas solidified his status as a lottery talent. Even when he's not knocking down three-pointers (44.2% on the year), he can make an impact as a pick-and-roll playmaker. Stauskas has quality passing skills for his position, which often goes unnoticed due to his shooting stroke. He also finishes well at the rim, at 62.1 percent in the half court, which will be valuable as he makes the jump the pros.

The Celtics sure could use a knock down 3 point shooter.

Who else would you like to see the Celtics consider at the 18th pick?

MY NOTE: Brooklyn has the 16th worst record in the league, not the 18th. I don't see, with the number of games left, where anybody is going to catch them or they are going to catch someone.

As of 4/11 @ 8:15 a.m. PDT, Draftexpress has the following players in 15-20:
15. Gary Harris, 6'5", 210#, SG http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Gary-Harris-6273/
16. Nik Staukas, 6'6", 205#, SG http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Nik-Stauskas-7103/
17. James Young, 6'7", 202#, SG/SF http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/James-Young-6462/
18. T.J. Warren, 6'8", 230#, SF/PF http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/T.J.-Warren-6436/
19. Kyle Anderson, 6'8", 233#, SF http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Kyle-Anderson-6177/
20. Montrezl Harrell, 6'8", 230#, PF http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Montrezl-Harrell-7019/

Bob,

#18 pick is not based on record.
It is the 14 lottery teams, then the playoff teams.
Brooklyn has the 4th worst record of the playoff teams.

I love Nik Staukas game.
I think he is going to be drafted between 12-14.

TJ,

Right. Memphis, with a .590 winning percentage may not make the playoffs (or they'll barely squeeze past Dallas) but either one of those teams will have a better record than Brooklyn's .551.

Stupid system.

Report: Nik Stauskas will enter 2014 NBA draft
April 10, 2014, 11:15 am

By Dan Feldman, Pro Basketball Talk

Nik Stauskas is good enough to get drafted in the first round and get a guaranteed contract. Unless he loves playing at Michigan so much he wants to sacrifice millions of dollars, he should enter the draft.

Will he?

Well…

Jeff Goodman of ESPN: Michigan sophomore Nik Stauskas is headed to the NBA, a source close to the situation told ESPN.com on Thursday.

Stauskas:

Just wanted to reiterate that any reports about my future intenions are FALSE! I have NOT made ANY decisions on my future yet!
— Nik Stauskas (@NStauskas11) April 10, 2014
The NCAA’s player-restricting, coach-enabling policies regarding the draft make it smart for players to deny declaring until they’re certain – or at least until April 27.

However, if Stauskas turns pro – and I suspect he will – he’s a quality prospect whose draft range starts in the mid-lottery.

The 6-foot-6 shooting guard made 44 percent of his 3-points both as a freshman and a sophomore. But the difference in his game those years was significant. Last offseason, Stauskas bulked up and improved his athleticism, giving himself a legitimate NBA frame. This season, he also expanded his all-around game, showing passing and ball-handling skills that make him a real pick-and-roll threat.

At the next level, 3-point shooting will remain Stauskas’ primary skill, but the college ranks have many good outside shooters. Stauskas has complementary skills to distance himself from that field and get on an NBA court. Then, he’ll bomb away from beyond the arc.

If he declares for the draft.
