From Sea to Shining Sea Empty From Sea to Shining Sea

Post by Sam Fri Jul 04, 2014 10:03 am

So here we are....an uncertain economy, sending military overseas, a hurricane threatening our East Coast, largely owned by foreign interests, and Carmelo Anthony leaving us breathless with anticipation.

And there's no place in this universe where I'd rather live.  It's not for lack of exposure to other places, and I love some of them dearly.  But, if countries can be thought of for a moment as individual teams—each trying its own formula for dealing with life—the United States of America is my team.  I guess it could be said that I bleed red, white and blue.  Final answer!

Here's wishing everyone on the board and your loved ones a happy, safe, and free Independence Day.  It's worth taking just a minute to reflect on the incredible series of events and the multitude of sacrifices that brought us to this point in our collective and respective destinies.  Gratitude would be a severe understatement of what I feel, and I hope you do too.

I've been to a few places on this 3rd rock from the sun and I've enjoyed just about all of them (the only place I can think of that I couldn't wait to get out of was Curacao).  There are things to like about just about every place, things we can learn from them (we don't do everything great and improvement is always possible in many ways, large and small) but overall, on balance, this is still the greatest place on earth.  I love traveling, I love seeing "the other side" and learning from them and I love coming home and appreciating what I already have and am always amazed when I hear people complain (and then I ask them where else they've been and the list is usually short-to-nil).

God Bless America and those who serve it.

Happy Independence Day everyone. It has been bought for us with the blood of patriots.

Boy, could she belt it out, Swish!  A symbol to several generations ate what it meant to be an American.  God bless Kate Smith.

Sam

A little trip down memory lane makes sure that I never forget the greatness of this country.

Swish,

Regarding memory, my grandmother started losing hers while in her mid-80s.  (She lived to be 99.)  A doctor suggested she start taking a supplement called "Lecithin," and she did.  Suddenly, her memory returned with a vengeance, and she even won the Miss Massachusetts Nursing Home Queen" two years later.  Then the memory started to go again.

But I was really impressed with the effects of Lecithin, temporary though they may have been.  I vowed that, when I started to feel old (which hasn't happened yet), I was going to have the word "NIHTICEL" tattoed on my chest (like they sometimes have the word "AMBULANCE" spelled backwards on ambulances) so that I'd get a daily reminder from my mirror to take Lethicin.

Sam

My short term memory drives me nuts on a daily basis. Just the opposite of my long term memory. Quite normal I understand. One learns to live with it. Life is still great.

Swish,

I give myself memory tests all the time.  The only area in which I have difficulty is with people's names. I've had the same difficulty since I was a kid.  I can remember whether a person is left- or right-handed, his health history, his license plate number—virtually everything about him except his name.  I've come to the conclusion that mine is a very visually oriented memory.  To remember something I need some visual stimulus.

So far, I haven't forgotten my wife's name.  Maybe the tattoo of her name on her forehead helps me visually.

Don't ever use the " HEY YOU" salutation- unless your looking for trouble.
