Report: Bosh prefers max contract elsewhere than take pay cut for Heat
$$$. And I don't blame him (for once).

Report: Bosh would prefer a four-year max deal with another team to staying with Heat for less
Brett Pollakoff Jul 5, 2014, 11:00 AM EDT
The longer the LeBron James situation drags out, the more we’re going to continue to hear rumblings about Miami’s Big Three being broken up, with those players pursuing what would certainly be lucrative options elsewhere.
While the Heat remain the most likely destination for James to end up, it does seem for the first time that his leaving to go somewhere else is a real possibility.
If that were to happen, teams would be lining up to try to poach Chris Bosh, who is a legitimate All-Star talent that would command no less than a four-year max contract on the open market. In fact, he may now prefer that to taking less money to stay in Miami on a new deal that might lock him up for the next five years.
From Ken Berger of CBSSports.com:
Bosh possibly going to the Rockets (or to the Lakers or Mavs) proves why the notion of Bosh taking a $10 million pay cut to stay in Miami was never realistic. With the Bulls, Rockets, Mavs, Lakers, Cavs, Suns and potentially others chasing James, Anthony or both, there are more teams than there are LeBrons and Melos (only one of each). Once James and Anthony have made a decision, the teams that lost out will be lining up to create a market for Bosh.
Thus, with James waiting for Heat president Pat Riley to revamp the roster and with Dwyane Wade leaving $42 million on the table at age 32, Bosh is the member of the Big Three most likely to break away. Multiple league sources say there will be a close-to-max market for Bosh if Anthony and James stay with their respective teams. One of those people, an executive with a rival team, said the growing belief around the league is that Bosh would prefer a four-year max deal with another team to a discounted longer deal with Miami.
Any deal that Bosh and LeBron sign to stay in Miami would likely be very similar to their last ones, which included early termination provisions after the first three years. So, if James does return and Bosh agrees to take less in the first couple of years of a new contract, he’ll have the option of either collecting the rest near the end of it, or simply opting out to secure a more lucrative deal when that time comes.
Bosh has said more than once that he doesn’t want to leave Miami. But if the unexpected happens, and LeBron bolts in free agency, it would be easy to see Bosh doing the same — for max money, and without having to deal with the decision of whether or not to take a discount.

Report: Impatient with Heat, LeBron courts other teams
July 4, 2014, 3:45 pm
LeBron James' impatience with the Miami Heat's efforts to improve their roster has led to his agent courting new teams for the free agent, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski:
After conducting meetings with three NBA teams interested in pursuing free-agent star LeBron James, his agent suggested to owners and executives present that a failure of Miami president Pat Riley to rapidly recruit a strong supporting cast could bring finalists back to meet with James himself next week, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Rich Paul, the agent for James, invited three teams – Cleveland, Dallas and Phoenix – to the offices of his Klutch Sports headquarters to listen to pitches.

I wonder if the fact that the Heat looked eminently beatable in the Finals made it easier for Bosh to leave. More money with which to court Deng? Perk?

It's anyone's guess. During the Big 3 era, Bosh's value has gone up while Wade's has gone down. And I'm sure Bosh could be thinking that there are plenty of other teas that he could make a decent run with.

KJ,
I guess you and I are chasing each other around the board tonight.
If I were Bosh, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to consider the Lakers. Whether I'd advise the Lakers to consider Bosh might be a different story. I'll always think of him as somewhat soft.

Sam,
In truth, he is no center. If I'm LA and I pick him up, I will definitely have a center so he can play the 4 and stretch the court. I think that better serves his strengths.

KJ,
Well they have a center in Pau, which is more than we can say. I don't know how long he'll be there though.
It's funny. How many times, over the past few years, has Pau considered to have been hours away from leaving the Lakers? And now they might actually try to keep him.

If Carmelo is signed, then Pau likely stays. But that would probably eliminate any chance of signing Bosh as a result of salary cap constraints.
The Lakers will have a handful of players tying up 99.9% of the cap.

Usually, teams lock up the bigger pieces first. That would be LeBron, then Wade and Bosh, then Melo if he still fits (LOL). Then comes the filler by using exceptions and vet min players.
LeBron wants to see the process in reverse, he wants to see the improvement in the team BEFORE he decides to sign his max contract. He thinks the world is his Burger King, in all things he wants it "His Way".
LeBron wants Wade and Bosh to take less than their market value while he gets the big slice of pie. I can see Wade taking less, he is on the back nine, but Bosh is in the middle of his prime and may want to get his one big contract before it is too late.
LeBron is on a mission, he wants to be like Mike. He wants money so that he can be a team owner when he retires. If so, he may have to sacrifice 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.

Just curious, KJ and Sam, with Danny's current draft picks knowing we really needed a center, has he basically said to the rest of the NBA World, "We're not getting a center, we don't need a center." If so, why? Does he see the league evolving in some way the rest of us don't? Are the Hibberts and the DHowards on their way out?

I interpret it more as, "We need a center but we're not drafting just any center if a truly good one isn't available. We've done that three times in the past two drafts and still don't have a center. Good centers are really hard to come by."dbrown4 wrote:Just curious, KJ and Sam, with Danny's current draft picks knowing we really needed a center, has he basically said to the rest of the NBA World, "We're not getting a center, we don't need a center." Bosh "wants to get his one big contract before it's too late"??? He's already made over $123 miillion in his life, has been paid at least $14 million his last six years and has averaged $17.5 million his last three years. Sure, he can get another large contract for the next three or four years being that he now just turned 30, but it's not as if he's had to clip coupons for the last ten years and is just now looking for the big score financially. He'll get another big contract going forward, but it's not too late, even if he never makes another nickel, to live the rest of his life for him - and however many children he wants to leave around - stress free.

they should let Bosh and Wade go, that team is way stronger with signing Deng and Perk and Bosh gone.
