Backspin is too underrated. Because it does two things: (1) forces the ball to roll off the fingertips correctly rather than palming it the way Rondo often does; (2) neutralizes the forward motion of the ball thus permitting a potential miss to bounce around the rim (aka a "soft shot") rather than off the rim.
