One of my favorites. Pete's talent, and the way he developed it, just blew my mind.
Additional kudos: Maravich's 3667 points and 44.2ppg are NCAA scoring records that will probably never be broken. He set these records in only 3 years of college ball due to freshman eligibility playing varsity rules back then. And that was before the 3pt shot.
In a 2010 interview, no less a luminary than John Havlicek said that Maravich was "the best ballhandler of all time". Considering some of the players he played with (Cooz, Tiny), played against and has watched since retirement up to that 2010 interview (Magic, Stockton, Chris Paul, Rondo) that is QUITE a statement.

Re: Red On Roundball: Drills, With "Pistol" Pete Maravich
At the time of the Roundball episode, Auerbach called Maravich the best passer and ball handler in basketball.
Maravuch, the ultimate example of an all-time great who never played for a contender in his prime.
And when he finally had a chance to be on a contending team, he was not only physically broken down but had also lost his competitive fire as evidenced by his surprise retirement.
Then he died early from an undetected congenital heart condition.

Havlicek never played with Cousy in his (Cousy's) prime or anything close to it.
