The video that has been running around was an off-air comment she made with another sports writer, Frank Isola of the NY Post. It was not part of the segment that was aired as part of the show. He asked, she answered and the camera was still rolling during a break (why can't people realize that the cameras never turn off and that if a producer tells you they are they are lying).
Jackie Mac isn't Donny Marshall or Tanguay or anything or body even remotely resembling them. I don't even think she's the same species as them. She is neither a Rondo-hater nor is she a human "how not to" example of a sportswriter/personality like they are.
She may be wrong about this, but she's not trying to hype it either. She could have written this in her own article with the blaring headline "RONDO DEMANDS TRADE!" and become the center of media attention. She has that kind of respect and stature in her field that such a headline would vault her into a week of non-stop sportswriting personality glory. She didn't and hasn't.
And if you think GMs around the league are unaware of Danny's attitude, and asking price, for a Rondo trade, then you must think he doesn't spend much time on the phone.
I just hope Danny doesn't focus on draft picks as part of the deal. He already has enough of those to rebuild a couple of teams. Get a real player, Danny, get an all-star or an almost all-star at least.

It's too bad we have two threads on this topic. I already posted my reaction to this on the other thread. IMO, she actually comes off as a Rondo hater here. Too much attitude and edge in her voice for her not to be.

I'm not much for believing in Rondo rumors, mainly because they're not based in anything other than pure speculation/some sort of slobberfest to have something to talk about.

Let's make something clear. Jackie MacMullan most specifically does NOT have a big mouth. She said (in confidence, by the way) the same thing many other media people have said about Rondo. The difference is that she has more credibility than most other media people. She's the E.F. Hutton of media.
And because she has a high degree of credibility and a big reputation for being a trusted confidant of players, if she chose to reveal some of the more salacious facts at her disposal, she would stand the basketball world on its ear. That she chooses not to reveal the more titillating of those stories in her possession for purposes of self-glorification or money is a credit to her SMALL mouth and her ethics, plus being a major part of buttressing her credibility.
In no way did she solicit an opportunity to spread this story. No way at all. If anyone should be chastized, it should be the person(s) who left the tape running and/or released its contents. We may be sure that person's name was not Jackie MacMullan.
And so what if she had intentionally made the remark on air. It's her opinion about Rondo. So what? Is she not allowed to have opinions? Especially when one does not gain her level of credibility by spreading gossip she knows to be untrue.

I remember when Rondo was going to do color commentary with Mike Gorman this past season. Someone interviewed Jackie asking how she thought he would do. She went on and on that he really is a likable guy, great sense of humor, giving Rondo accolades.
My point is, it did not seem at that point that she had an ax to grind with Rondo. So why would she give this information to the press. It obviously was a conversation she never thought would hit the press.

The product of Jackie's work is not based on personal likes and dislikes. It's based almost entirely of facts and implications of those facts. That approach is why she's so universally liked by media associates, players and coaches. Think about the fact that she can call a guy like Larry Bird any time she wishes and get reliable and confidential information—not just about the Pacers but around the league. Multiply that relationship by scores, and you have some insight into the resources of Jackie MacMullan.
I told her I think she should write a book about women in sports journalism. With her research skills, contacts and industriousness, I believe such a book would be a natural.

Almost right on the day that most players can now be traded (12/15), the rumors of Rondo being traded are at a fever pitch.
With all of the hatred that was directed toward Jackie MacMullen a few months ago over her Rondo being traded comments, can we now agree that she was probably right all along?
She was so confident about her Rondo being traded statements that I wondered if she had some very confidential inside information. I wouldn't doubt that she had some inside information.
I do think Rondo will be traded to a team that has a good chance of re-signing him (Dallas, Houston, LA Lakers). I am not so sure Rondo will want to commit to Sacramento long term which might mean they wouldn't put together a serious offer.
I REALLY like Marcus Smart as an NBA player. I think he could be a long time starter in the league.
I know he doesn't shoot well, but that can improve.
But, I am not so sure he is destined to be a point guard.
I think Boston will give him plenty of chances to be their point guard of the future.

I'll say this, i think there is nothing to write about and sell papers other then sales ads for local and national retailers. Baseball meetings have concluded, trades made last week...spring training are months away.........football has yet to reach the point of playoffs................so why not stir the pot!

Her comments were not correct.
If I recall she previously indicated that Rondo wanted out. That is not the same thing as the team seeking a trade partner.
Now if it can be confirmed that Rondo wants to be traded then her comments become more credible.
From everything that I have read with direct quotes from Rondo, his preference is to remain in Boston.

Does anyone really think Rondo is going to say anything other then that he wants to stay in Boston?
Maybe he does, maybe he doesn't.
We can't take his public statements as truth.
If Boston feels Rondo doesn't want to be there or might sign with another team this summer, they are going to trade him.

Does anyone seriously think that Rondo would be the subject of serious discussions if the Celtics braintrust weren't convinced by (as the courts say) a preponderance of the evidence that Rondo's highly likely to leave—even if their strongest evidence is the ceiling of what they're prepared to offer him? For those who truly accept Rondo's public comments as Gospel, I suggest a book on "spin" (the p.r. variety) be on your holiday lists. In the same vein, if Rondo is traded, don't expect to find out, with any accuracy, how much weight should be attributed to each of various factors (including his desires).
As for the unfairly maligned Jackie MacMullan, there's one thing on which everyone who knows her well agrees: She never makes comments on which she's guessing rather than having done her diligence through sources generally unavailable to anyone on this board. It doesn't matter whether those comments are part of her public persona of her private persona. She needs no "vindication" of any kind. I can't exactly say a trade means she was right for making her comments (I will still contend she was in the wrong for them). If Rondo is traded, should we assume it was because he demanded a trade, as she stated?

Did Jackie really say Rondo demanded a trade? I thought she indicated that Rondo wanted out of Boston. In the report I read, she specifically said, "It will happen because he has told them he wants out, and no one believes me but that's the truth." A desire is different from a demand.
Jackie's not a guesser. She's a grinder who digs and digs into her enormous grab bag of reliable sources until a preponderance of the evidence convinces her of something. And her track record of weighing evidence is nearly immaculate. (I would have omitted the word "nearly," but nobody's perfect.) She operates based on accumulating credible facts rather than yielding to the emotion that often drives some fans' opinions.
I know some people will turn themselves into pretzels to try to find ways to position her in a negative light on this one. That's their prerogative.

I just want to say I didn't rip TJ or Jackie.
I said something to the effect that Ainge messed up very big time when he made the Perk trade and how you should never mess with a teams chemistry when they were so close and had Lebrons number that year. I ripped Danny with some choice words and called the Perk trade the worst in Celtic history, and that after KG and Pierce left ofcourse Rondo wanted to leave and I don't blame him.
