Re: Bill Russell's Three Hour Interview, For The Library Of Congress Civil Rights History Project
Quite an interview Bob, Thanks for sharing.
A couple of years ago one of my close friends went to a sports show that Russell was appearing in. She brought a picture of Russ and Larry Seigfreid standing on the court with Russ's arm around Ziggy. It had been in the Boston Globe and she had sent away for a copy of it. She kept it in a memory box, Ziggy was always one of our favorites when we had season tickets.
Russ got so excited to see it. She had two copies. She asked him to sign it after explaining how three women had stood in line game after game, playoffs and all to decided where we would buy our season's tickets for the next year! She explained how each of us had one favorite, her's being Russ. He told her to give the pictures to his associate, give her address, and he would sign it and mail it back. Well, he did
She never lets the chance go by to tell us about her picture!!
He is a remarkable man, who stood by his convictions. It took forever to get him to come back to Boston to re-retire his number. What a night. Bill had a friend who knew many people, and he got me two tickets to that night. It is a wonderful memory.
