Sullinger not thinking about possible big pay day
But what about beyond that?
Sullinger will be in line for a contract extension that would kick in at the start of the 2016-2017 season, the first year of the uber-rich TV deal the league recently signed that's expected to significantly raise the salary cap for teams.
The way Sullinger has progressed coupled with the more lucrative market that the new TV deal will create, it's not a huge stretch to envision Sullinger landing a deal that paid around $10 million per season.
Taken with the No. 21 pick in the 2012 draft, a redo of that draft today would land Sullinger somewhere in the top 10 as arguably the second-best big man behind the No. 1 pick that year, Anthony Davis.
Sullinger admits to being motivated to this day by the draft night slight.
"That's always been there," Sullinger told CSNNE.com. "I always play with a chip on my shoulder. Everybody says 'I'm not this, I'm not that.' I been hearing it ever since middle school."
And as far as his contract is concerned, that's something he says he refuses to worry about.
"I let my agent handle that," he said. "That's why I hired him. That's his job. So I let him handle all that and I just play."

MY NOTE: We're about to start a new season and Blakely writes about a contract negotiation that's two years away. Another no comment.

Re: Sullinger Not Thinking About Possible Big Pay Day
Sully seems to be somewhat of a throwback player in terms of his values. He focuses so hard on improving and winning that there's little room in his mentality for thinking about his bank account two years down the road. Perhaps time and increased notoriety will change him. Perhaps not. And perhaps his dad will rap him upside the head if he does change.
