Re: Green to NO?
Berlin,
I'm don't pretend to be much of a predictor on trades or anything else. But it does seem likely that Rondo's trade is just the forerunner to more player movement in the next few weeks. One reason is that traded players cannot be traded again for two months, and the February trading deadline is within one day of two months away. That could explain the haste in trading Rondo. It's difficult to figure how any of the three acquired Mavs figure into long-term Celtics plans. Nelson could at least do a pedestrian job of filling in for Rondo until the Celtics make a move for another point guard. (My bet, unless Smart starts dazzling us as soon as he returns from injury, is that they'll add a floor general in the draft.
Who knows, perhaps short, spindly, lightweight Wright will provide another mobile center, and maybe his huge wingspan will make up for his lack of bulk at the defensive end, but I think that's a long shot. I'm guessing 60 days will be long enough for Danny to pull the trigger on trading him. I see the third guy (I forget hi name) as being jettisoned a.s.a.p.
As for Jeff, it's entirely possible that he could fit into future Celtics plans, which suggests to me that the Celtics would be silly not to insist on a major return and some salary-making detritus and draft picks. If Jeff goes, I'll be very sorry to see it happen. The rumors don't have the earmarks of suggesting the Celts are seeking the intimidator. What's new? Getting an intimidator would be the only reason I'd consider letting Jeff go.
The PG logjam is just crying out for one of those guys to be moved, but they probably can't afford to do that with Zeller as their only true center.
Who knows? Pressey may get considerable minutes as the pace-setter for the club until someone better suited to the position in the long haul comes along.
