Embiid near 300#!!
Embiid has a weight issue. Although the Sixers wouldn't disclose his weight, a source said he's close to 300 pounds after being 250 pounds at Kansas last season. His work ethic is being questioned by some inside the organization. Philadelphia Inquirer
Rumors tagsPhiladelphia 76ers, Joel Embiid

The Sixers are trying to address the added weight. Embiid, however, hasn't always been a willing workout participant, according to sources. He's even blown off conditioning drills, one source added. Philadelphia Inquirer

Looks like the kid doesn't have much work ethic.

My thoughts exactly... Well almost- mine was... (whew.. we likely missed out on Oden 2.0! Another dodged bullet!)

Re: Embiid near 300#!!
might be too early to write him off entirely, he is still very young and injured.
but it looks like he needs an attitude adjustment on his work habits ( when you're an athlete, keeping your weight in check is part of your work to me).

A young, talented big who is injured, out of shape and not working hard on his rehab?
Philly must be having visions of Andrew Bynum dancing through their heads.
"when you're an athlete, keeping your weight in check is part of your work to me). "
Amen to that. Larry Bird when he coached the Pacers had just two rules: you had to be on time and you had to stay in shape.
If 90% of success is showing up, 90% of success for a talented ballplayer is showing up in shape.

If Boston was offered Embiid for Smart straight up, do you think they would make that trade?

Embiid probably has a much higher ceiling... if he can reach it.

LOL, that showing up part is what I say to every new person I hire in my business. I tell them if you show up every day and just work steady, do as the job foreman asks you, you'll do just fine here.
That seems to elude many of the younger people that I hire, it seems today.

Re: Embiid near 300#!!
I was hoping that Embiid would have impressed the 76ers enough so that they would not again draft a center this year.
They have taken injured centers first in the last two drafts either thinking that one of them turns into a star and the other guy becomes the backup or one gets traded once a first stringer is determined.
Now with this guy gaining 50 pounds in the six months since the June draft, the 76ers may think that they still need another center in this year's draft. Of course, if they take one that will mean one less big man available for the Cs to decide upon next June.

I am friendly with most of the long time employees at the grocery store where I used to live. I was in the check-out line one day when one of the older guys told me that a young girl had just called in to say that she wouldn't be in to work that day. He asked her if she was sick or wasn't feeling well. She said, no, she just didn't want to work today. He told her that if she wanted to keep her job, she should come in. She relented.
The typical work week at that grocery store is 32 hours with benefits. The reason for the short week is that whenever the younger people call in sick, the other workers can cover for them and not go over 40 hours themselves. If they went over 40, they would have to be paid time and a half.

I dont know about "Much Higher". Marcus Smart would have gone #2 if he came out in 2013 and is one of the most NBA ready players to come out in a long time.
Embiid has a lot of natural physical potential and a 7ft frame, but with his current injury (a spinal stress fracture is very serious and something the may indicate long term injury issues). You would think with Noel sitting on the bench right next to him, the Sixers would have enough experience with injury prone big men. Guess not.

Embiid and Philly say he is not 300 lbs.
"I don't weigh that," Embiid said simply, via CSN Philly's Dei Lynam, who added that a team source said Embiid's been a maximum of 275 pounds while sitting out.

Never ceases to amaze me with all these pros that can not stay in shape. Dont the teams have chefs and dietitians available?

Most everyone seems to be accepting the 300 pounds as fact, but it could be that someone with an agenda is the source of this rumor. Maybe someone in Philly management thinks he's not working as hard as he should and wants to motivate him, maybe someone thinks added weight jeopardizes his recovery (even if 25 pounds, not 50), or maybe someone is trying to motivate him to upgrade his diet. Who knows.
The thing is, if he's gained that much weight, where are the pictures of him with a gut or getting a crate of burgers at the drive-through? The guy isn't a complete hermit, is he? Call me cynical or whatever, but I'm skeptical.

If Shaq would have stayed in better shape he might have been playing now and he would have been much better his last couple of years.

Have you seen Embiid's frame vs Shaq? He has a slender, wiry frame more like Robert Parish or Jokim Noah.
There is no way he could handle the same amount of weight as Karl Malone or Wes Unseld

Outside,
I agree with you.
I think I'll go check out the corner Dunkin' Donuts though. You know, just for research purposes. In case he's there.
To show that I'm willing to sacrifice for the future of a young kid like Embiid, maybe I'll lighten the place up by an iced coffee and a Boston Cream donut while I'm there.
Regards
