Draper: Celtics-Nets deal 'the gift that keeps on giving'
February 19, 2015, 8:30 pm
With Kevin Garnett headed back to the Minnesota Timberwolves at the 2015 trade deadline, the Brooklyn Nets parted ways with the final piece from the big trade with the Celtics in 2013.
Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated, Kyle Draper and Tommy Heinsohn revisited the deal on Thursday's Celtics Trade Deadline Special.
"What do [the Nets] have to show for it? One first-round series win," said Mannix. "That was a tremendous trade by Danny Ainge to get the assets he got for a couple players that were fading, a couple of players that Brooklyn couldn't keep beyond a season-and-a-half. Just a big win for Boston."
Draper called the deal "the gift that keeps on giving."
The Celtics still have Gerald Wallace, James Young (2014 first-round pick), a 2016 first-round pick, the option to swap 2017 first-round picks, and a 2018 first-round pick.

MY NOTE: When you consider that the team that Pierce, KG and JET went to, with Deron Williams and Brook Lopez and Joe Johnson were better than the one they left, it kinda makes you realize how close to the end the 3 Amigos era really was. They mortgaged their future for the next 5 years for one first-round series win. Trader Danny...On another note, KG's return to Minny is perfect basketball music.

An obviously great deal for us from day one, it looks even better as time goes on.
