Ainge: Celtics need another 'dynamic scorer'

WALTHAM, Mass. – Danny Ainge will be the first to tell you that the Celtics have a plethora of needs this offseason.
But it appears as though Ainge has one area in particular he’s looking to upgrade this summer.
“You could see the difference in our team when we acquired Isaiah [Thomas], a dynamic scorer,” Ainge, Boston’s president of basketball operations, said on 98.5 the Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich show. “We need another dynamic scorer, preferably at the three [small forward], four [power forward] or five [center] position.”
Ainge went on to add that there’s also a need for better rebounders and shot-blockers, too.
“I like each one of the players on our roster,” Ainge said. “But we just need to upgrade our overall talent.”
Ainge addressed a number of other topics as well, including his thoughts on Boston’s unexpected playoff appearance against the Cleveland Cavaliers, who swept the Celtics in just four games.
“I felt like we underperformed,” Ainge said. “We had some good moments. It was a great experience for our guys. They played hard. But ultimately, we made too many mistakes and we could never get over the hump.”
Players that stood out in a positive way for him included Jae Crowder and Jared Sullinger. He also liked what he saw out of Avery Bradley defensively on Kyrie Irving even if the numbers Irving put up in the series suggested he struggled.
“Whenever we had to put someone else on Kyrie, it was a big drop off,” Ainge said. “Everybody else had some good moments, but those performances stood out.”

Mr. Blakely reporting the obvious, but he is still correct until additional talent is acquired.
The summer of 2016 will also be about adding addition talent because it will be tough to add all the necessary talent to chase banner 18 in just this summer alone. I think three guys added this summer to the rotation and then two more in the summer of 2016.

Clyde,
The key is that, in adding guys to the rotation, the Celtics don't really need supporting players. They need guys with starting potential. The initial goal should be to piece together a group of starters who could at least beat the current bench in practice—something I doubt would have happened often during the past two months of this past season.

Correct, Sam. I should have specified that I thought that the three new players needed to be top 8 rotation players.

Clyde,
Which makes it all the more difficult to acquire three of that type in one season. But, if anyone can pull off the improbable, it's Danny.

By the way Jeff Green's game has been worse than normal in these playoffs, he could be a legit 3rd option playing off Gasol and Randolph, how many SF's would thrive playing with those two? and he's been surprising putrid these playoffs.
