Summer League

The Celtics will NOT be in the Orlando Summer league this year.  They will, however, be in Vegas and in a Utah Jazz league.

Smart, Young and Iverson set to suit up for Boston

The Boston Celtics are set to join 23 other teams in the Samsung NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. These teams will compete in three preliminary round games from July 10-14, with the tournament games played up until the 19th. The championship game will be July 20th. Teams in this league are generally comprised of first and second year NBA players.

The Boston Celtics will send Marcus Smart, James Young and Colton Iverson to Las Vegas to participate on the team. Phil Pressey could be added tot he roster if the team decides to pick up their option on him for next season. Kelly Olynyk will not join them, as he will be playing on the Canadian National team and GM Danny Ainge stated he didn’t want anyone playing too much basketball this summer. The Celtics have a lot of draft picks in June’s selection, so expect them to join this team as well.

The games will be held at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion on the University of Nevada Las Vegas campus. Last summer the event set all-time records for attendance, television viewership, merchandise sales and digital consumption. The games can be seen on NBA TV and ESPN.com and can be heard on SiriusXM NBA Radio.

The reigning Las Vegas NBA Summer League champion, the Sacramento Kings, will join 14 of this season’s 16 playoff teams. In the past, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant, Draymond Green and Andrew Wiggins have played in these events, and fans have now learned this is the best way to see the league’s future stars.

Boston will also participate in the 2015 Utah Jazz Summer League, along with the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers and of course the Jazz. These games will take place between July 6-9th. This year, the field dropped from 24 teams to only 4. Smart, Young and Iverson are expected to play in this as well.

Less than 7 weeks to basketball, with 5 weeks of scouting first!

First, I hope and assume the games will be telecast.  Second, if they are telecast, I hope they find some announcers who actually cover some of the action instead of harping on irrelevancies while we number-challenged fans try to make out who is who on the court.
