Re: Perkins the rim protector vs Sullinger the rim protector
Swish,
Maybe I'm missing something but these stats address their offense not their defense. Yes, there is a stat for blocked shots but I would think that opposing teams' fg% in the paint, or opposing points given up/minute they are on the floor might be more apropos?

I was thinking the same thing, Bob. What's the rim protector connection?

Your not missing anything. I tend to gloss over those things that I believe to be irrelevant in the big picture. Right now the so called rim protector role is being beaten to death in my opinion. It was my intention to simply show how close Perk and Sully match up on offense. How Perk stacks up against Sully on defense is another matter since I don't have a clue. What I do know is that the 2006-07 team which Perk centered, finished at 24-58 and a win percent of .293. Their dismal Efg% placed them in a tie for 27th-28th. Ainge solved that problem by adding 2 all-league players to the 2007-08 ( Allen and Garnett ) roster along with sharp shooters Posey and House and a number 5 ranking efg%. The ingredients for a championship cake must include at least 2 all-league scorers and or rebounders. If one of those all- league players happens to be a so called rim protector them its a nice plus.

I guess I should have used the word center rather than rim protector. Just what are the guide lines that determine a rim protector?

Re: Perkins the rim protector vs Sullinger the rim protector
Thanks for the clarification of your rationale, Swish, even if I don't agree about the priority of shooters over a defensive/rebounding center FOR THIS TEAM. Yes, you need reasonable balance to put a competitive team on the floor. But, in working toward achieving balance, the number one priority is usually to shore up the number one area of vulnerability. That is a center who will act (either immediately or through growth over time) as a deterrent in the lane. In my opinion, a shooter would come second, and a floor general third. I certainly wouldn't object if Danny found a couple of shooters, although I haven't been thrilled so far with James Young.
