MY mock draft Version 2 (no trades)
thinking about trades is making my head hurt this year, so here goes.
My Mock Draft ver 2.0 (No Trades)
1) Minn- Karl Anthony-Towns (Ken)- T’wolves end up picking towns over Okafor here, but can’t lose with either selection.
2) LAL- Jahil Okafor (Duke)- Lakers are happy to upgrade their talent level with either big man the T’wolves pass on.
3) Phil- D’Angelo Russell (OSU)- 76’ers get a possible S. Curry type player here.
4) NY- Kristaps Porzingis (Int)- The rise of Porzingis works well with the Knicks needs here and they happily stay put at #4.
5) Orl- Wille Cauley-Stein (Ken)- The first real spot for a trade in this draft, IMO is here. But I have the magis taking the best defensive big man here as they continue to build their young team.
6) Sac- Emmanuel Mudiay (Int)- Kings would be very happy if Mudiay falls to this pick, though I fully expect it to be traded as part of a deal for Denver’s PG- Lawson.
7) Den- Mario Hezongia (Int)- Nuggets are in rebuild mode and a shooter is always a good pick.
Det- Justice Winslow (Duke)- Pistons get a quality SF here , which has been a need for a while.
9) Char- Stanley Johnson (Ariz)- the next pick that could be traded is here. But Johnson is a good pick for this team.
10) Mia- Myles turner (Texas)- Yes even with Whiteside around they need more help at center.
11) Ind- Devin Booker (Ken)- for all the talk about the Pacers needing help up front, they need a SG worst.
12) Utah- Kelly Oubre (Kan)- Swingman type with lots of upside here.
13) Phoe- Frank Kaminsky (Wisc)- The Suns need some help at center
14) Okl- Cameron Payne (Murray St)- looks like a replacement for R. Jackson as third guard for the Thumder.
15) Atl- Trey Lyles (Ken)- With both Millsap and Carroll free agents, there is a need here.
16) Bos- Bobby Portis (Ark)- BPA pick
17) Mil- Sam Dekker (Wisc)- Local product who can provide depth overall for the Bucks.
18) Hou- Tyrus Jones (Duke)- The rockets playing J.Terry at the point in the playoffs is all we needed to see.
19) Wash- Kevon Looney (UCLA)- good value pick for the Wizard/bullets.
20) Tor- Ronde Hollis-Jefferson (Ariz)- Defensive minded SF who can also guars SG’s right away.
21) Dal- Jerian Grant (Notre Dame)- he’ll at least FIT better than Rondo did last year.
22) Chic- Justin Anderson (Vir)- a player similar to Butler, to provide depth at SF and SG.
23) Port- Montrezl Harrell (Lou)- Trailblazers could lose both Aldridge and Lopez.
24) Clev- Rashad Vaughn (UNLV)- outside shooter to replace M. Miller
25) Mem- Delon Wirght (Utah)- good value here for a BU Point
26) SA- ‘Willie” Hernangomez (Int)- doesn’t this look like every Spurs late first rounder?
27) LAL- Terry Rozier (Lou)- Combo guard with the Lakers “extra” pick.
28) Bos- RJ Hunter (Georgia St)- outside shooter who didn’t shoot well last year?
29) Bkn- Christain Wood (UNLV)- Nets need young and active players.
30. GS- Jarrell Martin (LSU)- he supposedly has a first round guarantee, but where?
31) Minn- Chris McCullough (Syr)
32) Hou- Rakeem Christmas (Syr)
33) Bos- Robert Upshaw (Wash)
34) LAL- Jordan Mickey (LSU)
35) Phil- Cliff Alexander (Kan)
36) Minn- Norm Powell (UCLA)
37) Phil- Cedi Osman (Int)
38) Det- Dakari Johnson (Ken)
39) Char- Andrew Harrison (Ken)
40) Mia- Michael Frazier (Flor)
41) Bkn- JP Tokoto (NC)
42) Utah- Arturas Gudaitis (Int)

Looks reasonable - most picks make sense. Wouldn't mind seeing the C's take Robert Upshaw at 28; could be a steal if he could grow up under Brad's guidance.

If Upshaw gets medical clearance, I believe that he will be chosen before the 33rd spot. His physical capabilities will get some team to take a chance much earlier since just about everyone after #20 is real gamble whether they have ugly histories (like Upshaw) or whether they are perfect choir boys.

In this mock draft, Robert Upshaw drops to 40 - and is taken by Miami who could pair him with Whiteside. They predict Boston passes on him three times. If he's still there at 33 and we don't pick him I'll be very surprised.

Re: MY mock draft Version 2 (no trades)
I think he won't go until the second round, where there is no guaranteed money on the table.
evenif someone does snag him late in the first, it will only be to be a project in the NBA.
he's just got too many warts to be worth guaranteed money though, IMO.
i think for my last mock I'll just put the picks in and not the teams picking, as I am having a hard time seeing the draft day trades ahead of time this year. we all know they'll be a few moves including by Ainge.
