NBA supposedly banning Ilgauskas from returning to Cavs
Interesting news in Yahoo Sports article on Jamison trade and an "under-the-table" deal for Ilgauskas to return to Cleveland:
"The Los Angeles Times reported the NBA has told teams the center won’t be allowed to return to the Cavaliers, based on evidence there was a prearranged deal. The Cavs traded Ilgauskas and a No. 1 draft pick for Antawn Jamison on Thursday, and many in the NBA – including Lakers coach Phil Jackson and Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers – insisted they believed Ilgauskas was always destined to return to Cleveland."
Haven't found anything in the LA Times to verify this, but, if true, good for the NBA to do that.

I saw the same news on a couple of news sites. Interesting, we could use him for sure.

it would be great to see this insider trading crap bit the cavs on the butt. Greater still if we could sign him.

Isnt it going to be passed the deadline before the playoffs...
So prearranged or not they can not sign him before the march 1st deadline or whatever with the 30 days.

Here's how it works: Teams now will scan the waiver wire to see who gets bought out in what sort of has become trade deadline Jr. Players, some arranging buyouts, must be waived by March 1 to be eligible for the playoffs with another team.

Yes but isnt there a 30 day waiting period or whatever before you can resign a player that you traded that got waived? That would make it impossible to resign traded players for the playoffs this year.

swede,
It is my belief that the player has to be "waived" by March 1st, not "signed" by March 1st, to be elegible for the playoffs. This was discussed in another thread a couple days ago. Then they wait 30 days to return to the team that traded them or they wait 48 hours to sign with another team.
I really haven't found anything in the CBA that would indicate otherwise. The CBA site that I use has changed so that I have two choices:
1. Download the thing, bit by bit, in the PDF format, or
2. Log in to an account
I can use FAQ sites, but I didn't find anything conclusive there.
Maybe the new CBA will remove this end-around, although I would like to get Eddie House back this year under the current rules.

What do we think would be better for the game/league in general?
Seems to be used as a way to circumvent the trading rules now. Is there really any "legit" reasons for the trade & waive?

Latest line is that the NBA WILL NOT block a return of Z to Cavs.

jeb,
Innocent until proven guilty. There's no evidence of a "deal" to bring Z back.

No evidence?
That's like saying there is no evidence that the kid with the matches and soot on his shirt started the fire. Everyone and their mother knew this was part of the deal.

The evidence will soon be again playing center for the cavs allowing them to sign a former allstar for the low coast of nothing.
But maybe i'm just bitter. Your attitude about it is way better bobheck.
