Hawks head coach and president Mike Budenholzer issued the following statement about Scott’s arrest:

“We are aware of the situation involving Mike Scott this morning. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not have any additional comments at this time.”

Scott isn’t the only Hawks player currently involved in a legal battle. Thabo Sefolosha has an upcoming court appearance in relation to the April incident at a nightclub in New York that involved an altercation with an NYPD officer and resulted in a broken leg for Sefolosha.

In the coming days, more information will come out about the circumstances surrounding Scott’s arrest, but this kind of drama is never something that’s welcomed by teams.

Scott averaged 7.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game in 36 games for the Hawks last season.

MY NOTE:  So, the Hawks might be down a SG/SF (Sefelosha) and a SF/PF (6'8", 238# Scott).  We got extra.

What a screw up.  It's not enough to have it all, is it?  On the marijuana charge, maybe he could get off with a slap on the wrist but MDMA, also known as 'Ecstasy'?  That's a serious, serious drug and I'd hate to be the prosecutor that didn't push for a conviction.  There are a lot of people doing time in prison for possession of Ecstasy.  MDMA is a Schedule 1 drug, along with Opiates like heroin and morphine, hallucinogenics like LSD and stimulants like Meth.  It is bad, bad stuff and the political blowback from taking a "boys will be boys" type of approach to it would not help the DA's re-election chances.
