Second-rounder Thornton's career begins in Australia
October 11, 2015, 1:45 pm
BOSTON – Former William & Mary star Marcus Thornton, a second-round pick of the Boston Celtics in last June’s NBA draft, began his pro career this weekend in Australia.
Thornton, who signed with the Sydney Kings of the NBL (National Basketball League), contributed to Sydney’s 87-63 win over Cairns Taipans on Saturday.
The 6-foot-4 shooting guard was in the starting lineup and finished with nine points, three rebounds and three assists while playing just under 29 minutes.
Coming away with the victory was good, but Thornton will certainly look to improve upon his 3-for-11 shooting performance.
Taken by Boston with the 45th overall pick, Thornton’s next game with the Kings will be against Townsville on Thursday which is led by 6-6 Brian Conklin, a former standout at St. Louis University who is the reigning league MVP of the NBL.

MY NOTE: What does it say about the quality of competition that a 2nd round NBA draft rookie is starting?
