More eye-rolling statements from the mouth of Derrick Rose

Some of the things Derrick Rose says make you shake your head. They’re not nefarious, but they are an indication that he just doesn’t get it.

His should be an offseason spent wondering how things went so wrong for the Bulls and how he can help make them better. But, no. It will be spent preparing for free agency that’s a year away, he said last week.

Rose also mentioned that if the Bulls don’t make the playoffs, he’ll have more time to spend with his son. That’s the kind of thing you don’t say out loud, not when you’re making $20 million and certainly not when fans are still paying a premium to watch a mediocre basketball team.

We’ve spent most of the season trying to figure out who the Bulls’ on-court leader is, which is like trying to figure out how to get a rock to dispense water. Rose and Jimmy Butler frequently say nice things about the importance of meshing, but they don’t play well together. Sometimes they look like AAU teammates who take turns shooting, which is to say they look like all AAU teammates. That’s not what leaders are supposed to look like.

Butler says things that would seem to indicate he’s trying to be a leader, but just because he talks like one doesn’t mean anyone is following him. It could be that this is a team of me-first players. More likely, it’s a team that hasn’t bought what he’s selling. He might want to ask himself why that is.

The Bulls don’t know whom they can count on when times get tough. Injuries have been an issue all season, but they don’t explain why the team plays down to its competition so often. Over and over, media members have asked the players about an absence of heart, toughness and character. Rather than be insulted by such pointed questions, they shrug. After how they’ve played this season, who are they to argue?

MY NOTE:  Supposedly, DRose has been one helluva self-centered player, which is why the franchise is trying to re-orient itself around Jimmy Butler instead of an NBA MVP.

We might be looking at the biggest fire sale in Chicago since Mrs. O'Leary owned a cow.  Who, if anybody, on that team would you want?  Butler is probably the only one who is NOT available (maybe McBuckets and Portis), but if everybody on that team was available what/who would all you amateur GMs be willing to give up to get them?  Individual trades and multi-player packages are welcome as long as the numbers work or, at least, close (TPEs can make up the difference between the Trade Machine and real deals).

Noah will be an Unrestricted Free Agent.
Pau has a player option and will probably opt out.
So, Noah and Pau will probably not be part of a trade.
With most teams having significant cap space, the days of sign and trades is pretty much over.

I really don't see any realistic trades between Boston and Chicago.
Boston doesn't need or want Rose or Gibson.

Sounds like Rose wants out of Chicago, so he's shooting his mouth off.

112288,

The rumors are that the Bulls would be happy to move him too. They just think he's worth more than he is at this point, with his surgeries and attitude and all. They want to hand the reins to Butler.

Someone we don't need or want. Point guards sure can be head-casey. E/G. Rondo, IT, and Rose.

If Rose does want out of Chicago, I certainly hope that Ainge will only laugh if the Bulls call him.

This guy has far too many injuries, apparently a bad attitude and costs way too much. Not worth trading any of our young players for and also probably not worth taking even if he were free at this point in his career.

Chicago may just have to suffer along with Rose or just eat his salary.

Rose has 1 year at $21+m remaining on his contract after this season.
I'm not sure any team would want to trade for him and pay him that next year.
No team would give up any significant assets or draft picks for Rose.
Rose has had 1 dunk in the last 2 seasons.
He is far from the player he used to be.

Yeah, Rose is in a bad spot, TJ. Can he re-neg his contract at this point and spread that $21MM over the next few years to make it more palatable?

Rose can't renegotiate his final year.
I am not sure why he would want to do that anyway, unless he could do it and extend his contract another 2-3 years.
I think the Bulls probably don't want to extend him anyway.
Just let his final year play out and see what both sides want to do next summer.

Welcome to the new age basketball player. From where I sit, all those great Celtics teams would run most of these guys off the court.

Just my opinion, and I will forever stand by it!
