NBA Draft question? Empty NBA Draft question?

Post by beat Thu Apr 14, 2016 9:19 am

OK so we have 4 playoff teams tied with 48 wins?

How is the order of those picks determined? Same as the playoff seedings? Random draw of those teams?
Too lazy to try to search it out.

All I can find is this, says it will be determined by a tie breaker but no mention of what that is.

The draft lottery tie breakers have nothing to do with the playoff tie breakers.
In the next few days, the NBA will have coin flips to determine the order of the picks when teams are tied. Coin flips are easy to determine when there's two teams tied. I don't know how they do it when four tams have the same record.
Last year the tiebreakers were determined on 4/17.
The link is the press release from the NBA showing the results of the tie breakers last year.

Below summary taken from my above post.

TIEBREAKER BASIS FOR MULTI-WAY TIES:

(-) Tie breaker not needed (better overall winning percentage)
(1) Division leader wins tie from team not leading a division
(2) Head-to-head won-lost percentage
(3) Division won-lost percentage for teams in the same division
(4) Conference won-lost percentage
(5) W-L Percentage vs. Playoff teams, own conference
(6) W-L Percentage vs. Playoff teams, other conference
(7) Net Points, all games

Swish,

This is for playoff tiebreakers, not the draft order tiebreakers.

Swish,

This is for playoff tiebreakers, not the draft order tiebreakers.

My mistake. Thanks for the correction.

Even in a relatively shallow draft, those 3 first round picks could provide a nearly immediate core player.  Looking at the present list of players eligible and declared, it's possible we might find the scoring wing and defense-minded forward we need.  Trades involving the rights on the second and third of these picks could be in the mix.

In the second round I expect we'll get Ronda Rousey or perhaps Jordan Spieth.

Hi,
I believe the tiebreaker will be resolved April 15.

Basketball wise, Ronda Rousey appears kind of short and cannot jump.

Updated Boston Celtics 2016 NBA Draft odds

http://www.celticsblog.com/2016/4/14/11429164/updated-boston-celtics-2016-nba-draft-odds

The NBA regular season is over and the Boston Celtics own eight draft picks. Here's the updated order and odds for each pick:

FIRST ROUND

3rd-best lottery odds (via Nets)

The 2013 Celtics-Nets trade is the gift that just keeps on giving. The Nets finished 21-61, the third-worst record in the NBA. This means the Celtics will have a 15.6 percent chance at landing the No. 1 pick, a 31.3 percent chance at the Top 2, and a 46.9 percent chance at the Top 3. Here are the odds for each pick:

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th
15.6% 15.7% 15.6% 22.6% 26.5% 4%

All eyes are on Brandon Ingram and Ben Simmons, but don't forget Dragan Bender, who deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as them. However, having the No. 1 or No. 2 pick goes beyond having the chance to select a top prospect; it increases Boston's chances of trading for a transcendent talent like Jimmy Butler, DeMarcus Cousins, or someone else. Think big.

16th or 17th (via Mavericks)

The Mavs finished 42-40, tied with the Grizzlies. The NBA will hold a tiebreaker drawing (likely on Friday, April 15) to determine if the pick is 16th or 17th.

21st, 22nd, 23rd, or 24th (Celtics)

The Celtics finished 48-34, a 4-way tie with the Heat, Hornets, and Hawks.

SECOND ROUND

31st (via 76ers)

35th (via Wolves)

These are two of Boston's underrated assets, since they are high second round picks and the player won't have to sign to a rookie scale contract.

45th (via Mavericks)

Celtics also acquired this pick via the Rajon Rondo trade.

51st, 52nd, 53rd, or 54th (via Heat)

The pick will be 54th if the Heat select 21st, 53rd if they select 22nd, 52nd if they select 23rd, and 51st if they select 24th.

58th (via Cavaliers)

This pick could be used to draft-and-stash a player, like the Celtics did with Marcus Thornton in 2015.

Key Dates
•April 15 (unofficial): Tie-breakers will be broken
•May 17: NBA Draft Lottery
•June 23: NBA Draft

How are ties broken?

Ping pong balls are placed in a lottery machine and one ball is selected from the group. For the Mavericks pick, six balls will be placed in the machine, three with the Mavericks logo and three with the Grizzlies logo. The ball that is selected will be the 16th pick.

Yes, but she might be incredibly well suited for tough play in the paint.
