Horford To BOSTON - Page 2 Empty Re: Horford To BOSTON

Post by bobheckler Sat Jul 02, 2016 8:09 pm

Roster-to-date, under contract only

Bigs - Horford, Kelly
Swings - Mickey
Wings - Jae, Brown, Young
Ball Handlers - IT, Bradley, Smart, Rozier, Hunter

Restricted Free Agents, or under our control

Bigs - Sully, Amir, Zeller, Zizic, Frenchy
Swings - Jerebko, Bentil
Wings - Nader
Ball Handlers - Jackson

The timing of KD's announcement might result in Danny having to pick up Amir and/or Jonas, which would mean no KD this year anyway.

Shamrock,

He renegotiated the dates back to 7/7 from 7/1. KD might not be ready to decide by then.

Will have to give up Jerebko, Amir, and probably deal Sully (althoughI I have not heard any mention of anyone offering Sully a contract that Danny would have to match. There are a couple of holes to fill Durant or not. Turner's slot, and I know that Brown may be his replacement sometime but certainly not right away. We can only hope that those three rookies from last year come on balls of fire and show us something really good.

I have read where the coaches are impressed with Mickey, his work ethic. Showing up early for practice, etc. Be nice if we had some one come on like other teams have had and a guy like RJ or Rozier shocks us all

Brown is NBA ready, and Rozier is now a veteran with playoff experience. I expect both to play 15 mpg right off the bat, but we'll see. Danny passed over a lot of talented guards/wings at pick 3 and pick 16, so I'm assuming he feels very confident in the guys we have.

BREAKING: Durant flew to Boston yesterday and then flew back to the Hamptons with Tom Brady.

And he added this

If Ainge gets Horford and Durant I will get one of his baseball cards tattooed on me.

I didn't think you could offer a 5 year contract to a player who wasn't yours already? I thought 4 was the max which why, all things being equal, Atlanta had a built in edge.

Big time signing.  The timing of this is amazing.  If KD also decides to come that would be a coup for the ages.  While I do not want to get my hopes up too high KD coming makes sense now.

This is pretty special.

The twitters are saying that as of 11 minutes ago Durant has eliminated the Clippers as a destination- yesterday it was reported that the Clips blew away Durant in his presentation.

Good news for us!

This is the news that we have all been waiting for. A top tier FA coming to Boston looking to join the Celtics winning culture. If KD seriously is entertaining the idea of playing with the Celtics NOW is the time! Why wait another year? It makes no sense for KD to go thru the grind of the Western Conference one more year only to lose to the C's in the end. 18 shamrocks FARRRRROUT!!!

Horford's excited:

I would be too if someone just offered to pay me $113 million.

Gee, what a problem, what to do with all that $$$$$$$!

I am really excited after being a little down when Turner decided to leave us. I know one thing, he never would have made $70 million in Boston. Just doesn't make sense, but then again, most of what is going on in the league regarding the money being spent on marginal players makes any sense.

Steve,

Here is the part of that column that got ME excited.

"Durant spent part of the past week trying to persuade Horford to consider joining the Oklahoma City Thunder in free agency, but Horford didn’t want to risk Durant and Russell Westbrook leaving via free agency in the next year, league sources said."

If Durant was recruiting Horford, then...

Durant should have a decision by late Sunday or sometime on Monday after his final visit with the last team on his visit list.

Getting very interesting because you know that Horford has called him already.

MOST SIGNIFICANT SIGNING SINCE LARRY BIRD!!!!!

THIS WILL BE MARKED DOWN AS THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENT IN CELTIC HISTORY...............A STAR PLAYER.........DOMINANT CENTER CHOOSING BOSTON FOR THE NEXT 4 YEARS AND PERHAPS MORE.

I KNOW MOST PEOPLE WILL POINT TO THE TRADE THAT MADE THE BIG THREE COME INTO BEING............BUT THE BIG DIFFERENCE WAS.................IT WAS A TRADE!!!!!

HORFORD CHOSE BOSTON AS HIS PORT OF CALL BASED ON THE ORGANIZATION, THE COACH AND CELTIC HISTORY.........MONEY WAS THE LAST AS HE COULD HAVE GOTTEN ATLANTA TO BITE AND TRADE MILSAP TO ADD CAP SPACE.

MANY HAVE PROJECTED THE TEAM IN PREVIOUS POSTS..............THROW THEM AWAY......................DANNY IS GUNNING FOR TOP FILLER/BENCH PLAYERS AND MANY MEMBERS OF LAST YEAR'S TEAM WILL BE TRADED AS DANNY SIGNS OTHER FREE AGENTS!

FINALLY WE HAVE A CENTER!!!!!

DORANT IS NEXT GOD WILLING!

I DO PROJECT CLOSE TO 57 - 60 WINS NEXT SEASON.

GO CELTICS!

I admire your enthusiasm and it's a very nice (albeit very expensive) signing, but Horford is certainly not a "dominant center."   He's basically a power forward playing out of position at center because he does a reasonable job there.  His career averages of 14.3 points and 8.9 rebounds are not the numbers of a "dominant" center. Dominant centers make the Hall Of Fame.  Horford is very good but has no chance for the HOF.  Still, I'm happy he's a Celtic.  And happy I'm not paying him.  I will be ecstatic, however, if signing Horford gets us Durant.

Post by NYCelt Sun Jul 03, 2016 12:09 am

It will obviously be big if we were to get KD, but as it stands now, a big is what we need.

Horford at PF with a defensive oriented, rebounding center would really be something.  That type of front court could allow Horford to improve on his 15 point 7 rebound per game average, and would save him from getting pushed around under the rim so much.  It remains to be seen if we got one in the draft.  Zizic grabbed boards in the Adriatic League, which isn't the NBA or NCAA.  If he can get free of obligations there and come to the NBA, we can see if we got a hidden gem or not.

Signing Horford might be a step in the right direction, perhaps making up for the disappointment of draft night, if we continue to add the right pieces. With the exception of actually landing Durant, a center would really make this lineup special, and could elevate Horford to the type of player well worth what we're spending.

So, anyone got an old-school type center stashed somewhere?
