Mid-season trade idea Empty Mid-season trade idea

Bradley, Green and Jerebko to the Clippers for Redick, Pierce and Brice Jonson. Sometime in January I'd think a trade like this might be possible.

This move would be contingent on a few things:

- Brown forcing Green into merely a 4-6 minute a game shooter role at SF, a role Green will likely prove to deserve more than, but one perfect for Pierce at this stage in his career.

- The Clippers can get enough outside shooting from CP3, Rivers and Crawford but will lack a lock-down defender. Facing a potential playoff run where Westbrook or Lillard will be their 1st round opponent and Curry/Thompson loom in the WCF they could use AB to drive the other teams best scorer nuts and keep Paul fresh.

- Based on what we have seen this summer, Smart and Rozier are great defenders of both guard positions in need of more playing time. What the C's as a team will likely need is shooting. Redick will provide that in spades (41% career shooter!) and would likely not complain about being a backup to Smart when traded for and joining a new club heading to the playoffs. Bradley would probably do what is best for the team, but it would be hard to demote him in favor of Smart, especially when he is already so grossly underpaid.

- Jerebko will also find mins hard to get as Brown advances and Crowder plays more small ball 4. He'd be a good energy guy/shooter off the bench for the win-now Clippers who lack a guy like that behind Jordan/Griffin. Johnson could become a player like that in 2-3 years, but is just a rookie. The C's would get to have two young PF's in Johnson/Mickey, one an offense/rebounding type and the other a rim-protector, to develop and evaluate over 2 more seasons.

- Pierce of course would have just as good a chance of a title in Boston as in LA but end his career where it started with endless standing ovations and love from an organization that would move him right into a coaching or front office position next season if he so desired, hopefully after he nailed a few more daggers in brief appearances in big games and provided another great mentor for Brown.

Redick will turn 33 in June, right before his free agency.

I think he can have a Ray Allen type mid-30's career as a dagger dropping reserve on a contender. He'd still have huge value, but probably more in a 4 year 50 million type way, than the 4/80 or 5/95 type deal Bradley will be looking to sign at age 27-28 in 2019. If Bradley were to be here long-term the C's would still need a 12-16 minute a game dagger dropper. Smart and Rozier would want starter and 3rd guard type minutes and would not be in a specialist role like that, so one of them would have to be moved anyhow.

I'd look for the C's to make a run at Gordon Haywood next summer. With Bradley and Amir's money off the books they could easily max him out and he can play 8-12 mins at SG and another 22-26 at SF with enough mins to go around for Brown on the wing and Crowder as as swing.

If he stays in Utah, then the C's can give Redick something like 4/50 and Amir 2/20 instead of Haywood 4/110, and the team would likely be just as good. It would be more in a depth kind of way over adding a likely 3rd all-star, but still very good and possibly great if Brown and the Nets top 5 pick we get this year become borderline all-stars by their 2nd and 3rd seasons in 2018-19.
