Tough outing for Marcus Empty Tough outing for Marcus

Team played and won 12-11 last eve.

Marcus came in to pitch in the 4th with us up 8-4 and lasted thru the 5th. Got knocked around pretty bad in the 4th giving up the cycle (no MD not dog food) single double triple and homer, not in that order but at least he walked no one. And again an error by the third baseman kept the inning alive and so 3 of the 4 runs he allowed were unearned. He needs to pick it up when an error is made behind him. A beautiful throw by our right fielder cut a runner down at the plate to end the inning with no more damage.

In the next inning 5th he put down the first 2 on a strikeout and an easy fly to center. Then walked the next 2 on 9 pitches most of them up high. He appeared to be losing it and was aiming not throwing. He went 3-1 on the next batter but came back to strike him out too to end it.

He also got 1 at bat and hit a hard grounder to short and unfortunately into an easy double play.

So all in all it was his toughest outing to date. We had a little talk after, as I tried to tell him he needs to keep things in perspective. He is pitching against mostly kids 2-3 years older. He's a bit bummed, as he said he just couldn't get comfortable out there.

8 days off before the next game and the next four are against good teams. We will be lucky to pull even 1 out.

The most important thing is to let it go.

Next start/outing might be the cure. Sounds like the kid at the hot corner needs to take just a little more infield practice.

Beat: He looks so cold on the mound and swinging the stick, Geez where you guys live they might as well wait until May and play 31 straight days. Playing earlier they might as well wrap up in Parkas!-Oh and you Cat-Nipped me with the pre-emptive strike about the Cycle Dog Food reference-Chow (PURINA?)-MD.

MD

actually the weather has been great up here this spring.

It got cold later yesterday when the sun was setting. On the way home about 7:45 the bank clock/temp said 52 degrees. (no way)

It was really more like 40. Was 23 this morning when I got up. It has warmed up to close to 60 now however.

Beat,

I'm sure that, with your help, he's learning from every outing. From this one, I expect the lesson is to hang in there and rebound next time.

beat,

Better tell Marcus to watch out! The "younger generation" is already nipping at his veteran heels.

I saw that clip...................sorry but I really doubt a 5 year old can hit an 85 MPH pitch. Plus that bat he's swinging is longer than he is tall. BUT for a 5 year old there does appear to be some promise for sure.

beat,

You didn't really think I meant that Marcus would be going mano-a-mano with this pre-schooler NOW do you?

I'd love to see this kid live hiting any High school pitcher with that bat he is using. You gotta start somewhere though and when Marcus was five he could hit balls "tossed" to him.

And heck this kids 5, he should be in kindergarden not preschool!!
Enjoy your party on the left coast and have a toast for the guys back east!

beat,

He should be in kindergarten, but he was held back on scholastic disqualification. His finger painting teacher refused to pad his grade so he could pass.

Bob

and when he's 12 he's really 16.

Remember Danny Almonte from the Little league World series 6-7 years ago.

beat,

Works for me. Did you hear that Puerto Rico is voiding EVERY birth certificate issued before 7/1/2010. This means that as of 7/2, EVERYBODY born on that island has to re-apply.

That should put an end to the Danny Almonte's of the world...
