Boston Celtics news: Jaylen Brown likely out through All-Star break due to injury, but Jae Crowder returns

The Boston Celtics welcomed back Jae Crowder Monday but expect rookie Jaylen Brown to miss the remaining three games before the All-Star break.
Crowder rejoined the Celtics after missing the last two games due to personal reasons. He plans to play against the Mavericks, which is good because his team badly needs wing depth. In addition to the injuries for Avery Bradley (strained Achilles) and Brown (hip), Gerald Green came down with an illness and might miss Monday night's game:

Boston head coach Brad Stevens told reporters in Dallas that Brown will likely be out through the All-Star break. With three games in the next four days, that approach probably makes sense. Instead of rushing back, Brown will get almost two weeks to recover.
In the meantime, James Young should be ready for another opportunity. After totaling 32 minutes from Jan. 1 to Feb. 9, the lefty scored 10 points off the bench during Saturday night's win against the Utah Jazz.
Bradley has missed 17 of the last 18 games with a strained Achilles. He is likely to sit through the All-Star break, too, but has made progress, according to Stevens:

Brad Stevens says Avery Bradley is feeling about as good as he's felt, but no new sense on timetable.

MY NOTE: 18 games is 20% of the season, and that's a lot. Starting to worry a bit about Bradley.
Jaylen is out, more minutes for Gerald Green and to showcase James Young in the 10 days left before trade deadline. No, I am not impressed just because he had a good game...

this next man up stuff is getting OLD!
in 4 of the 6 years Bradley has been in the rotation, he has played 64 or less games.
something to think about with his contract year coming up soon.

That's why I'm for a Bradley for Noel trade. We are guaranteed no worse than the 4th pick in the lottery, which would mean that Fultz, Smith, and Ball, all pg's with off ball capabilities (Ball not as much) should be available, so trading AB wouldn't leave us with a guard glut. Even if we miss out on all 3 of the guards there is still Jackson or Tatum, sf's who could apprentice under Crowder while JB gets time at SG, where he has already shown potential. Trading AB would also clear up the upcoming "dilemma" of who to extend, IT or AB, but that should be a no brainer.kdp59 wrote:this next man up stuff is getting OLD!

Only if Noel agrees to a market extension somehow.
Bradley for a few month rental is too low for me.

Agree. It would be one thing if Bradley had a recurring injury. "Injury prone " is message board nonsense. Sometimes you play hard and get hurt. Nothing to do with his longterm value.

I certainly hope that Brown can get over this injury by the time the all star break ends. He has shown tons of improvement this season and might be the best rookie in the league by the end of the season.
