They also signed Jose Calderon to be Irving's back up. Pretty good.
The Cavs are also trying to trade Shumpert to Houston for draft pick(s) and a Traded Player Exception.
Houston is swinging for the fences this summer.

Kyle Lowry is staying in Toronto. That will make it easier for them to re-sign Ibaka.

Not surprisingly, the Celtics have requested waivers on Tyler Zeller.
Good luck, Tyler.

Report: Kings offer Wizards restricted free agent Otto Porter Jr. max salary contract
By Dane Carbaugh
Jul 2, 2017, 6:15 PM EDT
At least one team has offered Washington Wizards wing Otto Porter Jr. a max salary contract.
According to reports published on Sunday afternoon, the Sacramento Kings offered Porter a huge max contract, estimated to be worth $106 million. Porter is a restricted free agent, which means if he signs the offer sheet with Sacramento, Washington would have the opportunity to match.
Reports have said that Washington will be trying to match any offer for Porter, so he is expected to stay in D.C. with John Wall and Bradley Beal.

Wizards will make an aggressive offer at 12:01 am tonight -- and match any offer -- to ensure they keep Otto Porter, @TheUndefeated reports.

Washington is expected to move away from Marcin Gortat this off-season, which would help offset the $25+ million per annum salary that Porter would take home under the reported deal. Shedding Gortat’s salary would not entirely help mitigate Porters new contract, so expect the wizards to make future deals.
With Wall, Beal, and Ian Mahinmi all taking up big cap hits, adding Porter to the mix would severely hamper Washington moving forward. Their Achilles heel this NBA playoffs was their bench, something that will be hard to fix once Porter is on the books.
Nevertheless, Washington was extremely fun team to watch during the regular season and we can hope that they can get better as the Eastern Conference weakens this summer.
bob
MY NOTE: I don't see how Washington would match this, but maybe they will if they cut Gortat loose (would he play for the Celtics for cheap?). Either way, losing Porter and/or Gortat should weaken Washington.
What a truly pathetic ending: "Nevertheless, Washington was extremely fun team to watch during the regular season and we can hope that they can get better as the Eastern Conference weakens this summer." Forget about actually getting better, let's hope we still just look good because everybody around us sucks.

I know Washington has said they intend to match any offers, but it wouldn't be a shock to me if they let him go...or better yet do the old sign and trade with the RFA (if that is still allowed).
they have Oubre waiting in the wings and they just signed vet SG Jodie Meeks to a 2 year deal.

Dude just never worked out for us, to my surprise. When he first joined the team he and Rondo teamed up for some very solid pick and rolls and pic and pops. They immediately were on the same wavelength, but when Rondo was traded Zeller never played at that level again.
Good luck to him he'll certainly get a decent offer from some team.

Shams Charania @ShamsCharania
Free agent Paul Millsap has agreed to a three-year, $90M with the Denver Nuggets, league sources tell The Vertical.

I believe this signing takes the Nuggets out of the running for Gallinari. They'll have to renounce his Bird Rights to get this cap room.
bob
MY NOTE: $30M/year for 3 years for a player who will be 33 in February and will be 35 at the end of the contract!? WTF!? How much does 28 year old Gallinari want?
Millsap $30M
Redick -$23M
What is going on here?! I can understand the Redick one, some, it is a 1 year deal and they have SO many rookie contracts they need 1 or 2 big contracts to make the team salary minimum, but 3 years for Millsap?

Rondo can still pass and make others better, I remember that year, Zellers fg% was nuts....too bad he beats to his own drum and has to do things his way all the time. I think Clippers could use a pg as could Timberwolves.

Hawks front office probably wishing they had just blown it all up at trade deadline. Now, they let Millsap walk for nothing.

MY NOTE: Someone needs to be fired. They mishandled the Al Horford re-signing, traded Howard after 1 year and now lost Millsap for nothing. Schroder is doing well but did they really need to trade Teague? That could be another strike too.

I don't get it either, Millsap deal I mean, I would have thought a three year deal for him somewhere In the high 40s to mid 50 millions.bobheckler wrote:Shams Charania @ShamsCharania

Re: Free Agency 2017
Millsap is a very good PF thats why.
when I brought his name up a few weeks back as an option here, most said he was washed up.
NOT
better than what we have at PF right now
and better than Danilo the cripple, who some here seem to like a lot (best check his injury history and lack of doing anything but waving players past him on defense).
lets see, my top FA PF:
1) Blake
2) Ibaka
3) Millsap
whats left?
crickets.......
but we don't need no big men in the NBA anymore, I suppose ( that's why all three of the above got good money).
I sure hope Tatum can play PF, we're gonna need him there. eat you Wheaties young man!!

Ben McLemore to Memphis, 2 years, $10.7M deal.
Sacto better land Porter or they just screwed themselves good.
LA's #1 pick next year looks safer because PG ended up in OKC this year and, failing that, we can always count on the perennial west coast dumpster fire that is the Sacramento Queens.

McLemore was down on their depth chart in the past two years. I think they signed and played Afflalo ahead of him even this past year...gulp!
two years ago I kept wanting to get him here with Boogie Cousins in a trade...oh for the old days.

WAS claims they'll match.......can't really see it, though, with Wall and Beal already maxed out. Porter would be the highest paid player on the team. Which would make Wall whine again.

It does not appear that Memphis is over paying, but I am glad that we are not paying him.
Sacramento had some nice draft picks this year, but they still do not seem to know which way is up.
Can Otto Porter really want to go there even if they have the most money to spend on him?

I'm concerned about the lakers pick because they have no incentive to tank this year. PHO, ORL, IND, CHI, SAC and PHI will all be bad...will the lakers be worse? We need them to be 2-5. Or else, as you say, wait for the following year. Kings will suck until they get new ownership

Re: Free Agency 2017
The reality before us clearly shows that multiple teams are more than willing to take on the luxury tax in order to retain their own players.
Maybe as we look at some of our own players and their free agency, we should not dismiss the option for them to be retained even if it goes into the luxury tax bracket

Red not sure why you are concerned about the Lakers pick. Either we get it next year or we wait until 2019 for the Sacto pick. As long as we have the Golden Egg we are good as far as having the option to select more highend talent.

Several bigs like Milsap or Serge would have been a good fit. They are on relatively short term deals but Boston did not appear to have any interest. I find it difficult to imagine that Danny does not have a specific big man that he wants to trade for since he was not a player in free agency.

Next year's draft is supposed to be loaded with good bigs. We already have our own pick, and the BKN pick. If we had 3, certainly we'd get a great player out of it
