Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green (to absolutely no one's surprise) has a take on who should replace injured Washington Wizards guard John Wall in the All-Star game: Boston Celtics wing Jaylen Brown.
Wall needs a knee procedure, which will reportedly keep him out as long as two months.
Brown would certainly be a surprise selection. The second-year wing has seen a big spike in his counting stats, but that's largely because of the move to the starting lineup that is affording him 31.5 minutes per game, as opposed to last year's 17.2. Other candidates -- including Philadelphia's Ben Simmons and Miami's Goran Dragic -- seem like more natural selections, given their team success and their statistical contributions.
But Green's opinion is interesting, especially so soon after playing against Brown and the Celtics. Brown certainly played well against Golden State -- dropping 20 points on 6-for-9 shooting -- and the Warriors seem to have plenty of respect for Boston (although clearly, they also have plenty of confidence in their ability to win games against the Celtics, as well they should). Brown is the type of player other players often respect -- a tough defender, a freak athlete and a smart individual off the court. As his jumper develops and he continues to improve his ability to finish around the rim, don't be surprised if other people around the league start calling for him to be an All-Star as well.
Brown probably won't earn his first All-Star nod this year, but given his trajectory, his work ethic and his physical tools, it wouldn't be an enormous surprise to see him representing the East (or however the NBA decides to go about it) in the next few years.

MY NOTE: Adam Silver has named Andre Drummond as Wall's replacement but this is evidence of Jaylen's growing respect he is receiving from his peers. Green is generally considered to be the 2nd best defender in the NBA (maybe even DPOY with Kawhi out) and one of the most versatile players in the league. He is outspoken, a dirty player at times but there is nothing wrong with his BBIQ. He knows ball.

Very interesting when top end players recognize Brown. Lebron and Durant have also mentioned that Brown is an up and coming player that they respect.
