Celtics get 19th pick in the draft
To answer the questions before they start:
1. There are 30 teams total.
2. There were 8 teams with better regular season records than the Celtics.
3. There were 4 teams with 50-32 records: Boston, OKC, San Antonio and Portland.
4. Therefore, the Celtics could have picked anwhere between 19-22.
5. Coin flips were held to establish the pecking (or should that be "picking") order for the four tied teams.
6. The Celtics won all the coin flips and got the first pick of the four (19th, 20th, 21st, 22nd).
When you're on a roll and winning, you are on a roll and winning.
The Leprechaun is working his magic OT now.
Now that we know we're 19th, I wonder who we'd pick (or could get). You can get some decent players at 19, I know that, but I don't follow college ball myself so I don't know the talent.

Re: Celtics get 19th pick in the draft
Bobh,
I saw that the lottery was run the other day, so I looked up the mock drafts. Here are a couple of them.
I like DraftExpress (DE). Pick on a name and you get more info than you need about a particular player.

This one has links in the names. Not as good as DE, but interesting.

Here is one from HoopsWorld. Oddly enough, the links for the players goes to DE.

Here is Yahoo's mock draft. Very brief descriptions.

Here's a page dedicated to the draft:

Enjoy,

Re: Celtics get 19th pick in the draft
gyso,
Thanks for all the links.
Wow. Hard to say who I like best. What is clear to me, though, is that there aren't many good centers. Even if Sheed turns out to be an asset, he's still 35 and we should start developing someone to step up behind him. Drafting the right player and giving them a 3-year rookie contract will give them the time to be ready when Sheed is gone.
I don't like the idea of drafting someone to replace Ray Allen. I don't know the kid, I don't watch college hoops, but you really gotta be something special to replace Ray. Of course, if Ray wants too much money...Unfortunately, the draft is only a few weeks after the end of the Finals, so that isn't a lot of time for Danny to work on Ray's situation and decide what he should do.
Then again, as we have seen many times, Danny drafts to trade. Danny and Doc like veterans. So, he might just pick someone that another GM covets, throw in a current player, and pick up a quality vet.
