Celtics set franchise record for 3-pointers made in a single season

The Boston Celtics have a new franchise record for 3-point field goals made in a single season.
On Monday night against the Miami Heat, Marcus Morris grabbed an offensive rebound off a miss with time winding down in the third quarter. Left alone in the corner, Morris put up a 3-point shot from the corner. It went in.
Morris' 3-point shot was the 986th make from beyond the arc this season for the Celtics. That beat the previous high of 985 in a single season, set by the 2016-17 Celtics.
In 2016-17, Isaiah Thomas led the Celtics' charge with a franchise-record 245 made threes of his own, 23 more than Antoine Walker had during the 2001-02 campaign. Jae Crowder and Avery Bradley also cracked the century mark along with Thomas.
During the 2018-19 season, the Celtics have seen more spread-out production from their sharpshooters. They have five players with 100 or more 3-point makes this season, including Kyrie Irving, Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum, Marcus Morris, and Terry Rozier.
Monday's game also marked the 18th time this season that the Celtics have made 15-plus 3-point shots in a single game. That is a franchise record as well.

MY NOTE: Welcome to the new NBA. Yuck. We are 6th in 3pt fgas (not surprisingly Houston with 44.8 3pt fgas/game is WAY ahead of 2nd place Milwaukee with 38.2/game). We are 5th in fgm/game, so we are doing well there. We are also 6th in 3pt fg%. So, all the games where we're screaming "we're taking too many 3s!" and "Oh My God, we can't hit a 3 to save our lives!" are just data points. We are now almost at the end of the season and we can reasonably call ourselves among the top 3pt shooting teams in the league in both 3pt fgas, fgm and fg%. We are also 29th in ftas/game and 27th in Points In The Paint, but those are different issues. Perhaps not totally unrelated, but not the same. Anthony Davis would fix those problems, I think.

The free throw attempts that Bob mentions is a big problem that shows itself in many ways for the Cs.

Re: Celtics set franchise record for 3-pointers made in a single season
Last year Boston was ranked 10th in 3PA but was ranked 2nd in percentage at 37.7
I think Boston continues to take too many bad 3 point shots.
They take them early in the shot clock
They take them after fighting and securing an offensive rebound
They take them at the expense of scoring on open looks in the paint
The 3 pointer has become the predominant weapon in today's NBA. It would serve them well to use a little more discretion on when they take those shots. They tend to shoot better when multiple passes proceed their 3PA's.
