Report: LeBron might miss time with groin injury

LeBron James aggravated a right groin injury in the first quarter of the Los Angeles Lakers' 111-106 loss Wednesday and could be forced to miss some time, ESPN reported Thursday.

James said he was kneed in the groin when taking a charge from the Clippers' Patrick Beverley and said that "kind of set me right back to where I was five days ago."

He missed the Lakers' game on Sunday, a loss to Denver, because of the a thoracic muscle strain, which affects the ribs, and lingering discomfort in his right groin.

It was on Christmas Day in 2018 that James tore his left groin against the Golden State Warriors, and he was limited to just 55 games on the season.

The Denver game was the only one James has missed on the season, and he has said he doesn't believe in the idea of load management. And while ESPN reported this injury is far less severe than last year's, it could worsen with overuse, and some members of the organization have asked him to sit out until his injury has had a chance to recover fully.

The Lakers play at the Portland Trail Blazers on Saturday, then travel home to meet the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday.

"To be honest, I haven't even thought about Portland just yet," said James, who turns 35 next week. "I'm always around the clock with my body, getting my treatment. If I'm feeling great, I'll be in the lineup. If I'm feeling well, I'll be in the lineup.

"We'll see what happens."

James played 39 minutes against the Clippers, scoring 23 points on 9-of-24 shooting. He added 10 assists and nine rebounds.

The Lakers are on a four-game losing streak. At 24-7, they still lead the Western Conference by 2.5 games over the Nuggets entering play Thursday but have fallen behind the Milwaukee Bucks for the NBA's best record.

MY NOTE: As LeBron learned last year you cannot rush a groin pull. It's not something you can just "play through" and expect it to improve.

You know a team that has quietly avoided/not reported for injury duty to date masked by its overall rocky start to the season is PHI. Come on, guys. Everybody has to pay to play. Better to get it over with now than in May. Elton will have to dust off his resume if anything less than a 2020 banner is his reward.

Indy continues to play well without VO. Coaching is the difference maker.

Philly will have to deal with lost man hours sooner or later. Boston is like a Timex, they just keep on ticking.

Pairings run short without a 3rd or 4th guy who can and will step up.

Fultz with 2 brick ftas that could have iced the game but instead it came down to the last second.

But Orlando won, and Philly just fell another game back from us.

Philly is now in 6th, with 11 losses. We have 7 losses. I think Brett Brown might start updating his resume. They were penciled in for 2nd, behind Milwaukee, when the season started. They might not do anything mid-season about the coach, but Philly currently is 7-9 on the road, so they aren't even a .500 team on the road, and if they end up in 6th at playoff time they won't have a home court series. That doesn't bode well for the playoffs for them, or Brown.

Amazing how wrong the experts can be, experts who bemoaned our losses of Kyrie and Al, experts who thought Al would be the Sixers reliable 3 point shooter and difference maker, experts who had us at best 4th in the East, experts who thought Jaylen was signed for way too much money, experts who thought Fultz should have been our #1 pick.

Sixers are poorly configured to deal with the 3 and D rosters in the East. Talk out of Philly is that AH and JE are not a good pairing together.

Al is too slow to stay with all the young and athletic 4's. Richardson does not make up for losing Butler and they badly miss the sniper, JJ Reddick.

Sooo if my math is right...and it is, that's about 50/50, (27 Home /26 Away). That's not really helping anything in my book. Plus we are about a week behind in overall games played so everyone is going to be behind us.

Lately Al looks like he can't throw it in the ocean. Ben Simmons, a.k.a. BS, I can't seem to figure out. He looks like he is all over the court scoring, passing, assisting, picking/rolling, driving to the hoop, banking it in, people talking about how much he has improved, etc. Then when they flash up his numbers for the game he has 4 points, 1 rebound 2 assists and 3 turnovers by the fourth quarter. Am I missing something?

Only reason he played yesterday was to end the streak. They know it's a G-League shit show if he's not in the line up. Even I don't want to see LeBron go out this way.

They did the same exact shit to Kobe, leading to his injuries. Players are always going to want to play, KG was the same way, management has to know how to limit their minutes.

When it comes to playing big minutes at age 34 plus - Super stars over the decades, like James, have certainly been counted on to put in the big minutes.

LeBron will get some rest before the playoffs start.
The Lakers have a 3 game lead in the West and have the 2nd easiest schedule the rest of the season.
Because of the time and money LeBron spends on his body to stay healthy and in great shape, it’s probably not going to turn out to be accurate if some predict injuries for him or compare LeBron to other prior players.

Lebron has a higher probability to get injured because he is older and already has played a lot of basketball over his career.

However if I was a Laker fan I would be more concerned with injuries to a lot of 30+ year old guys and those guys that seem to get nicked up a lot.

Good point, Rondo and Avery Bradley sure seem to have a problem staying on the floor, Kuzma has missed a bunch of games and they need him to be the 3rd wheel.

A lot of players get nicked up or have minor injuries.
A sprained ankle or an eye infection can keep a guy out for a couple of weeks.
Those issues are long over when the season is winding down.
As long as a team is where they want to be in the standings when the season is over and if their studs are healthy, all of the games missed early in the season are no longer an issue.
