Cow,

Yeah, right...like you'd turn down an NBA max contract...

And remember:  when he signed the contract LeBron and Kyrie were still there and nobody thought they were going to leave.

Max contract, a championship ring and a team that was young enough to compete for more.  Why would he leave?

.

Bob,

Kevin signed his extension in late July, 2018.
Kyrie and LeBron were no longer with Cleveland.
Kevin knew they were rebuilding.
He re-signed for the money.

Thanks TJ, that’s what I thought happened

Cow,

The Nets went all in on Kyrie and Durant, and neither may play this season. I'm not Worcester, but I believe shoulder impingements get better with rest unless something like a tendon is torn and that will require surgery. Durant and his Achilles, however, is a bitch to come back from, especially when you'll be 32 next season.

Brooklyn thought it was such a coup to sign Kyrie away from us. Little did they know how much joy it would bring us...

I'm beginning to wonder why teams ever deal with Danny. Hindsight and the proverbial Flaming Bag O' Poo should be kicking EVERYONE in the face!!

db

P.S. Maybe we should start calling Danny the Godfather. That's probably the only way these deals are going through!

Some interesting things from the weekend in the NBA:

The Clippers gave up 272 points at home to Memphis and New York.
In yesterday's game against the Knicks, the Clippers scored 85 points in quarters 2 and 3 and only won by 3 points.

The Lakers blocked 20 shots last night which is the most in the NBA in the last 19 years.
Kyle Kuzma's name is out there more since the Lakers said they will listen to trade offer for him.

The 8th seed in both conferences should continue to be a race for quite a while.
The Spurs barely are holding onto 8th place but could easily lose their next 5 games because they play Milwaukee, at Boston, at Memphis, at Toronto and at Miami.

Clippers 26th in defense, pretty shocking, we had them last game, just blew too many bunnies....they don’t scare me. I like our wings better than theirs.

Two tough b2b matchups coming up for us.  Playing on the second game at Philly and the next b2b is at Milwaukee for the 2nd game.

I do not believe in schedule losses but these games will test the Celtics metal.

Markelle Fultz had a first rib or thoracic outlet syndrome injury. I had the very same injury. With chiropractic adjustments, curcumin, weight training to strengthen, and active isolated stretching, I got over it. In my truly uninformed opinion, since I have not actually seen Kyrie's shoulder nor his X-rays nor palpated him nor watched him move his arm through rotation, I would say surgery for this ailment - what Kyrie's doctors are calling shoulder impingement - is for people who have uninformed but arrogant doctors who don't respect chiropractic and who don't understand how to properly exercise, stretch, and weight train through adhesions.. Kyrie will probably miss the rest of the season with this ailment. If Marcus Smart had it, he would recover almost fully in about 3 weeks and be back on the court.

Luka with another routine ho hum 38 11 10 triple double, 5-10 from 3, putting up 21 points in 3rd quarter. Hate to say it, but kid really is a combination of Larry and Magic. Neither of those greats were this complete at 20, quicker and faster than Larry, much better scoring ability than Magic, such a strong unguardable driving game, great touch on those floaters with amazing vision.

Cowens,

You were very high on Luka even early last year while it took most of us time to accept how great he is.
Good call with your early prediction for Luka.
He's clearly a top 5 MVP candidate and maybe in the top 3 depending on different opinions.
He will probably start seeing many more early double teams to try to slow him down.

Embiid dislocated the ring finger on his left hand last night.  He is day-to-day for the game against us.  My money says he plays, but there's a reason why I don't bet on sports.  btw, this is not for the squeamish...

Last year he didn’t start as their point guard, but once they saw how advanced he was night in and night out, they had to give him the position. This year he’s carried an even bigger load AND they are winning and it’s not like he’s playing with Kareem and Worthy. Besides being so skilled, he’s a workhorse that just keeps coming all game long. I can’t figure out how someone gets so skilled and good at 20....he’s just tearing up the NBA.

Luka was entertaining enough his rookie year to get a real cheap guy (me) to purchase NBA League Pass!

Anthony Davis leaves Lakers game against Knicks after hard fall, X-Rays are negative but he’s reportedly expected to miss at least next two games with ‘sacral contusion’

Anthony Davis took a hard fall after a collison with Knicks forward Julius Randle, and the Lakers training staff walked with Davis to the locker room as he exited the game. It sounds like he may not be back for two games, at least.

Lakers center Anthony Davis left the team’s game against the New York Knicks in the third quarter after landing hard on his back following a collision around the rim with Knicks forward Julius Randle. He missed the rest of the game with a sacral contusion/bruised tailbone, according to the team.

Anthony Davis was able to walk in the player tunnel at Staples Center as the initial shock of the fall wore off, a source tells ESPN. The plan is for Davis to undergo an MRI on Wednesday. He is expected to miss the upcoming road trip in DAL & OKC to stay back and rehab.

The Lakers will not practice on Wednesday.

Davis sustained the injury while trying to block Randle’s shot. He was called for a foul as Randle hit him in the air, knocking Davis off balance as he fell to the ground. Davis was down on the floor grabbing his lower back as concerned teammates and the training staff looked on, and had to be helped up before (gingerly) walking off under his own power.

Soon after the injury occurred, Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, told reporters that X-Rays on Davis were negative, but that he’s “sore.” Lauren Jones of the L.A. Sentinel — who has been first on several reports of injuries to Davis before — provided a few more details:

It should be noted that the play did not appear to feature any ill intent from Randle — a former Laker and who was also teammates with Davis on the New Orleans Pelicans — who by the looks of things was just bulling his way to the basket and did not intend Davis to cause Davis to land awkwardly in what was a freak outcome.

It is unknown exactly how many games Davis will ultimately miss, if any, but our own Dr. Rajpal Brar had some info on what the standard timeline for this injury in others usually is.

Per @LakersReporter, AD has a sacral contusion. Typically takes around 2 weeks to get back to 100% but playing is a matter of managing the soreness and discomfort.

Davis has already been getting listed with a sore shoulder on the injury report of late, and has also dealt with ankle and rib injuries this season. Given how huge Davis is to their championship hopes, they should approach this as cautiously as possible.

bob
MY NOTE:  Fell on his tailbone and bruised it.  Got lucky.  He'll miss a few games, no big deal. Remember when Jaylen fell on his tailbone? It hurt like Hell, made him miss some time, but he recovered well once the bruising and tightness subsided.

Toronto is now 4 games behind us in the loss column, Philly 5.  Only Miami is still close on our tail, only 1 game back.

Bobby Portis ejected after flagrant foul

NBA.com

January 8, 2020, 2:40 AM GMT-3

Bobby Portis is ejected by a flagrant foul to the head of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

I like Portis' play, in general, but he is the Bill Laimbeer of the NBA now.  The dirtiest player in the league.  I predict he's going to be out of the league soon, and I'm not just talking about multiple game suspensions for this.  GMs are not going to want him on their teams OR someone is going headhunting on Bobby Portis.  This was soooo blatant.  It was Kevin McHale on Rambis, but this is a different era.  They T players up for just talking smack, much less actual smack and this was as egregious as I've seen in the last 10 years.

A multi-million dollar asset on a very good team almost got seriously hurt.
Adam Silver is NOT smiling and thinking "boys will be boys" at this.

Davis has already been getting listed with a sore shoulder on the injury report of late, and has also dealt with ankle and rib injuries this season. Given how huge Davis is to their championship hopes, they should approach this as cautiously as possible.

MY NOTE:  Fell on his tailbone and bruised it.  Got lucky.  He'll miss a few games, no big deal.  Remember when Jaylen fell on his tailbone?  It hurt like Hell, made him miss some time, but he recovered well once the bruising and tightness subsided.

.

I was expected that AD would miss the next two games at Dallas and at OKC, but maybe he won't miss them.

Good news on the Anthony Davis front after he took that fall last night against the Knicks: an MRI showed a gluteus maximus contusion. He’s set to be listed as questionable for Friday’s game at Dallas, and Davis will travel with the team.

So Davis can be the latest to say that having to play the Knicks is just a pain in the ass? Literally?

I feel like Joel Embiid’s finger probably shouldn’t look like this

UPDATE, AS OF 1/8/20:

Joel Embiid out vs. Boston Celtics, visiting specialist for further testing on finger

Plus, an update on injured rookie Matisse Thybulle...

Joel Embiid will miss Thursday's meeting with the Boston Celtics on Thursday, a team official told reporters at the Sixers' practice facility on Wednesday, due to what they are calling a, "left ring finger injury."

While the Sixers were conducting practice Wednesday, Embiid was away from the team seeing a specialist. The team hopes to have more information on the extent of the injury later on Wednesday.

Though all parties avoided getting into specifics and timelines regarding Embiid's left hand, Brett Brown told reporters at practice that the possibility of Embiid missing time has absolutely weighed on his mind during practice over the last two days.

"I'm trying to beat the Boston Celtics and prepare the team to go beat the Boston Celtics, but to think that I'm not thinking longer, whenever the news comes out, would be disingenuous," Brown said. "You have to think, now what does this mean?...if you tilted the priorities of where did you weight this practice, it certainly was driven toward trying to beat Boston. But I would be lying if [we] didn't do some things in the event you receive news."

Embiid dislocated the finger in gruesome fashion against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday night, moments after returning from a trip to the locker room to get his already ailing hand X-rayed. Following that win Monday, Embiid told reporters he initially believed he had fractured his hand, but felt the need to power through to help out his team during a tough stretch.

"I think it happened a couple of plays earlier, I felt my finger snapping and I thought I fractured it. I went in the locker room, they did some X-rays and they said it was nothing," Embiid said, "I came back...and then it just happened. It was just unfortunate," Embiid told reporters. "It was pretty bad, I was basically playing with one hand."

The Sixers did receive a bit of good news to offset any anxiety over Embiid's health. Matisse Thybulle was a full participant in Wednesday's practice one day after competing in a scrimmage with Sixers staffers and backups, and the team says he will be available for their meeting with Boston on Thursday night.

While he was on the shelf, the team tried to ensure Thybulle was continuing to learn and grow even without access to playing time. Thybulle tried to maintain his pregame routine (physically working out aside) in spite of being unable to play, and he received guidance from players and coaches alike during his downtime. Brown had constant conversations with him about what he was seeing and what was done right & wrong by his teammates on the floor, and Tobias Harris spent time going through plays with the rookie on tablets in an effort to build up his knowledge of the scheme.

Thybulle is antsy to get back to work — he took the rare step of sprinting over to media availability, a contrast to the slow death march of most players — and he believes the things he learned from the sideline will benefit him on the floor moving forward.

"The opportunity to watch these guys play, watch more basketball, and get a feel from like an outside perspective of what's going on out there, I think that's helped me a lot knowing where I can help more, and there's areas other guys are doing good that I can adopt into my own game," Thybulle said Wednesday. "Watching people make the mistakes I usually make out there and seeing how you can avoid those, that's something I actually picked up on a lot."

We will keep you posted on any further updates regarding Joel Embiid's health. They will have to beat the Boston Celtics without him regardless.
