Not sure I totally buy that. On the surface it sounds reasonable but for Al and Gordon, it was clear their time as top tier players was over. For Al, he was just getting old. For Gordon it was a combination of injuries and the emergence of the two J's. End result for both was a clearly diminishing role. I actually have a lot of respect for both guys for seeking a situation where they can make big contributions. The 3rd guy, Kyrie, came in a trade, not as a free agent signing. Also, let's not forget that Kyrie genuinely believes the earth might be flat. Enough said. Point is, upon closer examination these 3 departures are entirely understandable without invoking some toxic environment or managerial incompetence. Finally, let's wait and see if we eventually re-sign or sign-and-trade GH before judging this whole situation.
So two seeing the writing on the wall and the third floating onward in his own little altered universe.
Good points all around.

Re: Hayward Opts OUT
Kyrie's actions mean nothing to anyone.
Al was able to get way more money than he deserved. We are lucky he left.
Gordon may simply be trying to get way more money than Danny thinks is wise to spend ...we shall see.

Good points all. I see there really is no correlation in the 3. Only one acted a complete fool. I don’t need to mention any names, just initials. Kyrie MF Irving!

Re: Hayward Opts OUT
MY NOTE: Putting this here because of the impact it would have on Gordon's departure to Atlanta if Atlanta goes for the younger, more likely cheaper, Joe Harris.

Report: Joe Harris garnering interest from two Eastern Conference teams
Thu, November 19, 2020, 8:48 AM PST
Joe Harris has expressed on multiple occasions he wants to remain a member of the Nets organization. Nets general manager Sean Marks has made clear re-signing the unrestricted free agent sharpshooter is his top priority this offseason. Although, everything going on with James Harden could easily make this priority No. 2. But mutual interest between the two groups doesn’t mean other NBA teams aren’t interested in Harris. Right now, Ian Begley of SNY is reporting Harris is due to make $16-20 million a year in his next deal. Both the Hawks and Hornets are interested in signing Harris, according to Begley.

#Pacers-#Celtics sign-and-trade update. Hayward wants to play in Indiana. He's told the #Celtics that. IND offering Turner and McDermott BOS wants Turner and Warren or Oladipo. That's a big difference.

The distance between Doug McDermott and TJ Warren is a canyon.

Woj says on @SportsCenter that Hayward's future is "still pretty wide open. He's pretty open-minded."

MY NOTE: Cut the deal, Danny. I have never been a fan of McDermott but he's on his last contract year for $7.3M. If Atlanta or NY throws crazy Horford money at Gordon we could get nothing AND lose Kanter. By the time the trade deadline comes next year he'll be a $3M filler.

I agree.... Would love to get Oladipo or Warren instead of McDermott, but that just seems too lopsided in Danny's favor. Turner and McDermott seems like a fair return for GH.

Hawks not interested in Gordon Hayward?
Marc Berman: Told Atlanta has little interest in Gordon Hayward – the only other team with cap space besides Knicks to sign the former All-Star. But cap space is overrated if a player wants to understandably stay in his home market of Indy. Sign and Trades have always been there. – via Twitter NYPost_Berman

Re: Hayward Opts OUT
If the Hawks have moved on (perhaps feeling Hayward's camp was just using them) then its down to NY and Boston as the only place he can get $25Mor more per year now.
maybe that Turner and Oladipo for Hayward and another piece may end up being in play after all

Re: Hayward Opts OUT
While Warren and Oladipo are better players I don’t have a problem with McDermott. He is basically a poor man’s version of Kyle Korver or JJ Reddick. He is a heady, fundamentally sound player whose strength is spotting up/catch and shoot. We know that Brad loves the 3 ball and floor spacing. McDermott checks both boxes. BobH point about him being in the last year of his (very reasonable) contract and the possible use of it as trade bait can’t be overstated or under considered. Keep in mind also that Turner is the key, lets not lose out on filling a need with youth and affordability haggling over a player coming off a major injury and looking for a huge contract (Oladipo) or a guy who broke out last year and the Pacers obviously see as a keeper (Warren), especially if Oladipo leaves or is dealt during the season.

Re: Hayward Opts OUT
It comes down to leverage, Hayward has none. He cannot go home to Indy without a sign and trade.
I'm with Danny, get what you can. Time is on your side.
To be honest, I'll be glad when it is over. Meanwhile,
Patience.

Re: Hayward Opts OUT
Adding Turner and McDermott still brings us out ahead. It doesn't need to be Oladipo or Warren. Great if Danny can pull that one off, but if not it's still a huge Celtic gain.
Getting a quality center and a badly needed bench shooter would be a game changer for the roster. Especially a young center with lots of mileage left on the tires.
