Putting our Finals loss in proper perspective... Empty Putting our Finals loss in proper perspective...

I recently watched the last quarter of our 1969 NBA Finals win over the Lakers and then shared the video with Bob H.

Here's the video, and here's Bob's wise response back to me:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lnu5vMfPtbw

Bob: "We were up 17 at one point. We were up 15 after 3 but only won by 2. And those were the Russell Celtics, the team Dick Dorr used to refer to as "The Tyranny".

"Maybe we should lighten up a bit on the Js et al, huh?"

Hi,
Yes, you're right. Unfortunately, it's still hurts, especially being so close...

Yes. Red had the cigars, but alas we had none.

I remember that game so well, I was supposed to go out to LA to see the game, but fate (and my Mom) stepped in. So I stayed home and watched it. The TV going, the radio on, and my yelling like crazy. It was the best of times.

You are right, we do have to put things in their proper perspective. I hope that we will not be looking back at some point and lamenting about the one that got away. Those 4 minutes of terrible basketball that could have put them up 3-1. Oh well, it is over, and I do hope we will get the chance to watch a good portion of this team for many years. As time goes on, we will lose Al, and maybe one or two others, but, if Brad can reincarnate himself as the second coming of Red, he will sign a few veterans at the end of their career who are ready to win a title and give us their last. Best, basketball

I love these kids, and hope to be able to watch them for a long time

I agree, going a little easier on the Js would be good.

Stuff happens sometimes. You can’t dwell on it.

Another of my favorite teams recently seemed to have a critical one wrapped up with 13 seconds left and still lost. But the hunt didn’t end with that particular clock.

Another season is coming for both. So you look forward. We’ll see what happens next with some added motivation creating more desire and focus.

If the two J's can bathe in the accolades bestowed upon them daily as superstars and achievements with NBA Honors, they can certainly have the thick skin to accept the crap performance they showed in the NBA finals!

It is no difference between the Celtics era back when and the Celtics now as how fans react.  They only difference is the larger megaphone called the internet, that leaves a bigger ringing sensation in ones ear!

I'm not buying that Jaylen had a crap performance in the NBA Finals.

He had a very good regular season, and his Finals stats were pretty much similar, against much tougher competition.

field goal % - Finals 43%/Regular season 47.3%
3 point % - 34%/35.8%
FT % - 80%/75.8%
RB - 7.33 per game/6.12 per game
assists - 3.67/3.5
steals - .8/1.06
Turnovers - 3.33/2.69
points - 23.5/23.62
minutes per game - 39.16/33.6

His minutes and rebounds were way up. Turnovers were up .64 per game.

I'm saluting JB for a job pretty well done.

People don’t care about that, a win is a win, it’s the outcome that matters. Either you got it done or you didn’t.

Worcester,

I agree with what you posted regarding Brown. I stand corrected!

I always liked Brown as the better player between the 2 J's. But I will stick with my original comment as it applies to Tatum.
